Vs. The Catholic University of America - Lost 8-6 - Boxscore

The Catholic University of America men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat host Moravian , 8-6, in a Landmark Conference match at Rocco Calvo Field to close out the 2009 season.

The Cardinals led 3-1 after 15 minutes and were ahead 6-3 at halftime.  Both teams scored once in the third quarter for Catholic to hold a 7-4 lead after three quarters.  The Cardinals had a 43-27 advantage in shots, a 33-30 edge in ground balls and won 15 of 18 face-offs.

Senior attack Christopher Danni led Moravian with two goals while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had a goal and two assists.  Sophomore attack David Bennett netted a goal and added an assist for the Greyhounds while senior attack Jason Tosches had one goal on senior day to finish his career as the school record holder in career goals with 92.  Sophomore midfielder David Forte had Moravian’s other goal while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp had three assists.

Devine led the Greyhounds with five ground balls while senior defender Steven Carroll had four ground balls to finish his career with an even 200, second in school history, and three caused turnovers.  Moravian senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 18 saves in his final collegiate match to finish his career with a school record 561 saves, and he added three ground balls.

Junior midfielder Jimmy Sinnott led Catholic with three goals while freshman attack Jimmy Bitonti had two goals and two assists.  Freshman midfielder Chris Fuccillo had two goals for the Cardinals while junior attack/midfielder Mike Groh had a goal and two assists.  Senior attack Kyle Brant, junior midfielder Mike Scotto and freshman attack Mark Saxton each had assists.

Freshman midfielder Tom Scotto won 15 of 18 face-offs for Catholic while junior defender Andrew Baldwin had five ground balls.  Sophomore goalie Sean McKenna had eight saves in the match.

Vs. Muhlenberg College - Lost 14-2 - Boxscore

The Muhlenberg College men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and scored the first 14 goals in a 14-2 non-conference win over rival and host Moravian at Rocco Calvo Field.

The victory also clinched the Matte Award for Muhlenberg for the 2008-09 school year as the Mules took a 9.5 to 6.5 lead in the standings with just two teams left to compete.

The Mules led 7-0 at halftime and 13-0 after three quarters.  Muhlenberg had a 39-23 advantage in shots and a 35-23 edge in ground balls while both teams won ten face-offs in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Robert Devine and freshman midfielder Zachary Stein each scored for the Greyhounds.  Devine also led Moravian with five ground balls and four caused turnovers while Stein won six of 12 face-offs.  Freshman defender Merrick Smith added four ground balls.

Greyhound senior goalie Benjamin Larson had ten saves and a pair of caused turnovers in just over 47 minutes of action.  Sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy finished off the match with one save.

Junior attack Paul Munday led Muhlenberg with three goals while junior midfielder Ari Jacobson had two goals and two assists.  Sophomore midfielder Zachary Armstrong  and freshman attack Greg Flasser each had two goals while freshman midfielder Clint Watkins, sophomore attack Brent Siebold and senior attack Andrew Lolley each added a goal and an assist.

The Mules used three goalies with Mike Horowitz playing the first half of the match with five saves.

At Kean University- Lost 10-9 - Boxscore

The Kean University men’s lacrosse team scored three straight goals in the fourth quarter to turn an 8-7 deficit into an 10-8 lead, and then held on for a 10-9 non-conference win over visiting Moravian.

The Greyhounds scored first on a goal from senior attack Jason Tosches at the 12:59 mark of the first quarter but 51 seconds later Moravian trailed 2-1.  The Greyhounds did hold a 4-3 lead after the first 15 minutes thanks to a pair of goals in the final 1:33 of the first quarter.  The Cougars scored two of the three goals in the second quarter to tie the match at 5-5 at halftime. 

Kean scored twice to start the third quarter but a Greyhound goal had the score at 7-6 Lean after 45 minutes.  The Cougars had a 29-28 edge in shots, a 36-17 advantage in ground balls and won 14 of 23 face-offs.

Tosches led Moravian with four goals to tie the Greyhound career record with 91 goals.  Sophomore midfielder David Forte added three goals while senior attack Christopher Danni and sophomore attack David Bennett each scored goals.  Sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp had a pair of assists for the Greyhounds while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had one assist.

Freshman defender Merrick Smith and freshman midfielder Zachary Stein each had a team high three ground balls while Stein won nine of 22 face-offs.  Greyhound senior goalie Benjamin Larson added nine saves.

Scott Leathem, Chris DeCarlo and Mike Terry each had two goals for Kean while Eric Gillar scored once goals to go with a match high three assists.  C.J. Gannon added a goal and two assists while Josh Morales and Sean Cope each found the back of the net once for the Cougars.  Anthony Bertucci added one assist.  Kean goalie John Gesumaria had 11 saves in the contest.

At The University of Scranton - Lost 11-4 - Boxscore

The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and defeated visiting Moravian, 11-4, in Landmark Conference action.

The Royals’ Nick Youngstrom scored three of his match high four goals in the first quarter including a man-up goal just 27 seconds into the match as Scranton led 5-0 after 15 minutes of action.  Both teams scored twice in the second quarter to give the Royals a 7-2 lead, and both squads tallied a goal in the third quarter as Scranton led 8-3 after 45 minutes of action.  The Royals finished the match with a 52-29 advantage in shots, a 50-39 edge in ground balls and won 14 of 19 face-offs.

Sophomore attack David Bennett led the Greyhounds with two goals while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp added a goal and an assist.  Senior attack Jason Tosches had a goal for Moravian while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had an assist. 

Sophomore defender Michael Santos and freshman defender Merrick Smith each had a team high five ground balls for Moravian while senior defender Steven Carroll had a team high five caused turnovers.  Freshman defender Kevin Jordan had four ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Greyhounds.  Senior goalie Benjamin Larson made 19 saves to go with three ground balls for Moravian.

Youngstrom led all scorers with five points on four goals and an assist while Kyle Frank and Robby Napp each had a goal and an assist for Scranton.  Christian Dugan, Mike Rufo, Patrick Cefalu, Colin McPoyle and Thomas Alati each found the back of the net for the Royals while Brett Greer contributed three assists.  Keenan Dowd also had an assist for Scranton.

Chris Sullivan led the Royals with five ground balls and three caused turnovers while Owen Eastwood also caused three turnovers.  Scranton goalie Jeremy Dowiak posted ten saves and three ground balls in the match.

Vs. Goucher College - Lost 8-5 - Boxscore

The Goucher College men’s lacrosse team rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a five-goal second quarter then held on to post an 8-5 victory over host Moravian in Landmark Conference action at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Gophers scored the first goal on a tally from senior attack Sam Fitzpatrick with 12:36 remaining in the first quarter, but the Greyhounds answered with four straight goals including two from sophomore midfielder David Forte to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes of action.  Goucher would score all five goals in the second quarter including three with a man advantage to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Moravian netted the only goal in the third quarter, a man-up goal from sophomore midfielder Robert Devine, to cut the Gopher lead to 6-5.  Goucher scored twice in the final 15 minutes including another man-up goal to earn the victory.  A total of 12 of the 13 goals in the match were scored on the east end of the field.  The Gophers finished the game with a 32-24 advantage in shots, a 29-28 edge in ground balls, and won nine of 16 face-offs.

Forte’s two goals led the Greyhounds while sophomore attack David Bennett had a goal and two assists.  Devine and senior attack Jason Tosches each scored goals for Moravian while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp and freshman defender Merrick Smith each had assists.

Senior defender Steve Carroll led the Greyhounds with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers while freshman midfielder Zachary Stein was five of 13 on face-offs.  Forte won two of three face-offs he took.  Greyhound senior goalie Benjamin Larson made 11 saves to become the first goalie in school history to reach 500 career saves, now with 505, and he had three ground balls.

Fitzpatrick led Goucher with three goals and an assist while freshman attack Rory Avertt netted two goals.  Freshman attack Kyle Boncargo had a goal and two assists for the Gophers while junior midfielder Jake Fratella had a goal and an assist.  Senior defender Max Walters netted his first goal of the season for Goucher while senior midfielder Brian Hoge had an assist.

Averett led the Gophers with seven ground balls while sophomore defender Justin Dunn caused three turnovers.  Junior midfielder Nick LaBricciosa was nine-for-16 on face-offs.  Junior goalie Chris Stricklin placed the first half in goal and made six saves for his first win of the year while senior keeper Austin Main had one save in the second half.

Vs. The United States Merchant Marine Academy - Lost 14-8 - Boxscore

The United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s lacrosse team used a seven-goal spurt in the third quarter to post a 14-8 Landmark Conference win over Moravian at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson and sophomore attack David Bennett but the Mariners would rally and the score was tied 3-3 after the first quarter.  USMMA scored three of the five goals in the second quarter to head to halftime with a 6-5 lead, and then the Mariners scored all seven goals in the third quarter to lead 13-5 after 45 minutes of action.  USMMA had a 52-25 advantage in shots, a 46-29 edge in ground balls and won 16 of 25 face-offs in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Robert Devine led the Greyhounds with two goals and an assist while senior attack Christopher Danni and Peterson each added two goals.  Sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp added a goal and three assists for Moravian while Bennett had one goal.  Senior attack Jason Tosches and freshman attack Jacob Harris each had assists.

Sophomore defender Michael Santos led Moravian with seven ground balls while freshman defender Merrick Smith had six ground balls.  Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein was nine-for-24 on face-offs.  Greyhound senior goalie Benjamin Laron posted 19 saves and three ground balls in 57 and a half minutes of action while sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy had two saves in the final two and a half minutes of the contest.

Senior attack Brennan Dougherty led the Mariners with four goals and three assists while junior attack Brian Flannery had four goals.  Freshmen midfielders Tyler Spaulding and Adam Jerlow each had two goals for USMMA while sophomore midfielder Robert Atkinson added a goal and an assist.  Sophomore attack Zach Gray had the Mariners final goal.

Senior defender Michael Condron led the Mariners with nine ground balls while sophomore midfielder David Alexander won nine of 15 face-offs.  Gray was five-for-six on face-offs.  USMMA used three goalies in the match with junior keeper Keegan Boyle making four saves in 52 minutes of action.  Freshman goalie Matt Weitz had one save in three minutes of action while sophomore keeper Scott Bridge did not make a save in his five minutes in the cage.

At Susquehanna University - Won 14-8 - Boxscore

Senior attack Christopher Danni and sophomore attack David Bennett each scored four goals to lead Moravian to its first-ever Landmark Conference win, a 14-8 victory at Susquehanna University.

Moravian dropped all six of its Landmark Conference matches in the inaugural season in 2008 and its first conference contest this season before the victory.  The match also started an hour late as the Greyhounds were delayed travelling to Selinsgrove.

Sophomore midfielder David Forte gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead two and a half minutes into the first quarter.  Greg Norris tied the match for the Crusaders just 30 seconds later.  Moravian then ran off six straight goals to lead 7-1 after 15 minutes of action.  Susquehanna would score five of the six goals in the second quarter to cut Moravian’s advantage to 8-6 at halftime.  The Greyhounds then had 3-1 advantages in goals in both the third and fourth quarters.  Moravian had a 35-26 advantage in shots while Susquehanna had a 38-32 edge in ground balls and won 16 of 26 face-offs.

Danni had two ground balls to go with his four goals.  Senior attack Jason Tosches added two goals and two assists for the Greyhounds while freshman attack Christopher Mohapp netted three goals.  Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein had a goal and six ground balls for Moravian while winning ten of 23 face-offs. 

Sophomroe midfielder Robert Devine had four assists while freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson, freshman attack Jacob Harris and senior defender Steven Carroll each had assists for the Greyhounds.  Carroll added six ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had ten saves and a team high eight ground balls for Moravian.  Bill Davis started in goal for Susquehanna and made one save in 21 minutes of action.  Anthony Maiorella had six saves in 35 minutes of action for the Crusaders. 

Norris led Susquehanna with three goals and an assist while Fred Morse, Dustin Breakey, Brett Brown, Joshua Rivet and Luke Delavan each had goals.  Brown also contributed two assists while Tim Daley and Matt Weiner each had assists for the Crusaders.  Ryan Oakes led Susquehanna with 12 ground balls and won 15 of 23 face-offs.

Vs. Immaculata University - Won 15-7 - Boxscore

Junior midfielder Robert Devine netted five goals and added three assists to lead Moravian to a 15-7 non-conference victory over Immaculata University at Rocco Calvo Field.

Greyhound junior attack Christopher Danni started the scoring in the first quarter, and Moravian led 3-1 after 15 minutes with two of Devine’s goals.  The Greyhounds would score the next 11 goals in the match to lead 9-1 at halftime and 14-2 after 45 minutes.  Moravian had a 38-35 edge in shots, a 34-29 advantage in ground balls and won 15 of 26 face-offs.

Devine had two ground balls to go with his eight points while Danni contributed four goals and two assists for six points.  Junior attack Jason Tosches added three goals and an assist for the Greyhounds while sophomore attack David Bennett had four assists.  Sophomore midfielder David Forte and freshmen midfielders Joseph Perrino and Jesse Peterson each had goals.

Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein had a team high six ground balls for Moravian while winning 11 of 17 face-offs.  Senior defender Steven Carroll had four ground balls and caused three turnovers while sophomore defender Michael Santos had four ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson started for the Greyhounds, making five saves in 39 and a half minutes of action.  Sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy added six saves in the final 20 and a half minutes. 

Sophomore midfielder Joe Keller, junior defender Jim Baranello and junior midfielder Zach Krytzer each scored two goals for Immaculata.  Junior midfielder/attack Tom Hartney added a goal and two assists while senior midfielder Andrew Rogers had an assist.  Junior goalie Andrew Sim had 15 saves.

At Drew University - Lost 10-7 - Boxscore

Moravian opened the 2009 Landmark Conference season with a 10-7 loss at Drew University. The Rangers scored the only two goals of the first quarter but the Greyhounds tied the match before halftime at 3-3. Drew out-scored Moravian, 4-1, in the third quarter to lead 7-4 after 45 minutes of action. The Rangers had a 33-27 advantage in shots, a 33-30 edge in ground balls and won 15 of 21 face-offs in the match.

Senior attack Christopher Danni led Moravian with four goals while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine scored two goals to go with five ground balls. Senior attack Jason Tosches found the back of the net once for the Greyhounds to become the fourth player in school history to record 100 career points with his 80th goal to go with 20 assists. Sophomore attack David Bennett added three assists while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp also had an assist for Moravian. Senior defender Steven Carroll and sophomroe defender Michael Santos each had three ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 11 saves and five ground balls for the Greyhounds while Drew goalie Michael Celentano had nine saves and one ground ball.

Rex Riley led the Rangers with three goals while Greg Reading added two goals and two assists. Mike Sayes had two goals and an assist for Drew while Jon Dowiak had a goal, a match high ten ground balls and was 14-for-20 on face-offs. Sean McNulty and Tyler Morse each had goals for Drew while Ari Young added two assists.

At DeSales University - Won 13-11 - Boxscore

Senior attack Christopher Danni scored a career high five goals and a total of six points to lead Moravian to a 13-11 non-conference victory at local rival DeSales University.

The Bulldogs scored first for a 1-0 lead before the Greyhounds ran off three straight goals.  DeSales answered with three goals to take a 4-3 lead after the first quarter.  Moravian then netted the only four goals of the second quarter to head into halftime with a 7-4 lead.  Each squad found the back of the cage twice in the third quarter to give the Greyhounds a 9-6 lead after 45 minutes of action. 

DeSales would score the first three goals of the final quarter to tie the match at 9-9 but Danni answered to put Moravian back in front.  The Bulldogs tied the score twice more, and both times Danni would give the Greyhounds the lead again.

DeSales had a small 36-34 edge in shots in the match, and the Bulldogs won 15 of 26 face-offs.  Moravian held a 34-29 advantage in ground balls.

Danni led all scorers with six points on five goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder David Forte added three goals.  Sophomore midfielder Robert Devine contributed two goals and a team high three assists for the Greyhounds while senior attack Jason Tosches had a goal and two assists.  Sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp added a goal and an assist for Moravian while sophomore attack David Bennett had a goal and an assist.  Freshman defender Merrick Smith had two assists for the Greyhounds.

Freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson led Moravian with seven ground balls while senior defender Steven Carroll added six ground balls.  Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein won eight of 15 face-offs for the Greyhounds to go with four ground balls while sophomore defender Michael Santos had five ground balls.  Senior goalie Benjamin Larson earned his first victory of the season for Moravian, and his first in nearly two years after missing all of last season with an injury, while posting 12 saves and grabbing six ground balls.

Matthew Brancaccio led DeSales with three goals and three assists while becoming the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer in the match.  Michael Bassani also scored three goals while Jeff Cook had two goals and an assist.  Kevin Walker netted a goal and an assist for DeSales to go with six ground balls and a 14-for-23 performance in face-offs while Joshua Van Hart had two goals.  Dan Quinn had one assist.  Jarryd Stamatelos made 13 saves in goal for the Bulldogs to go with four ground balls.

At Richard Stockton College of New Jersey - Lost 13-11 - Boxscore

Moravian netted the final six goals of the match but couldn’t overcome falling behind 6-0 in a 13-11 non-conference loss at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

The Ospreys jumped out to that 6-0 with all of the goals coming in the first quarter.  The Greyhounds scored the first three goals of the second quarter to cut the Richard Stockton lead in half, 6-3; however, the Ospreys netted five of the next six goals to head to halftime with an 11-4 lead.  Richard Stockton scored two of the first three goals in the third quarter and still led 13-7 after 45 minutes of action.  Moravian scored all of the goals in the fourth quarter to pull within 13-10 with 11:34 to play and within 13-11 with 4:43 remaining.  Richard Stockton had a 39-30 advantage in shots, a 38-28 edge in ground balls and won 15 of 27 face-offs in the match.

Sophomore attack David Bennett led Moravian with his second straight hat trick to go with two assists while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had two goals and two assists. Senior attack Christopher Danni netted two goals.  Senior attack Jason Tosches, sophomore midfielder David Forte, freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson and freshman midfielder Joseph Perrino each had one goal for the Greyhounds.

Sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp, freshman attack Jacob Harris and freshman defender Merrick Smith each had assists for Moravian.  Senior defender Steven Carroll led the Greyhounds with five ground balls while sophomore defender Michael Santos added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Devine and freshman defender Kevin Jordan each had three ground balls.  Freshman midfielder Zachary Stein won six of 11 face-offs for the Greyhounds while Forte won five of nine face-offs.

Sophomore goalie Benjamin Leavy made nine saves and added three ground balls in the first half for the Greyhounds while senior keeper Benjamin Larson had eight saves in the second half.

Keith Bologno led Richard Stockton with four goals and three assists while Josh Dybus had three goals and an assist.  Jonathan Kelly contributed two goals for the Ospreys while Kyle Marlborough had a goal and an assist and Sean Haugh netted a goal.  Ian Muchanic had a team high eight ground balls and three caused turnovers while Marlnorough won 14 of 21 face-off attempts for Richard Stockton.  Pete Marcelliano made 11 saves in 45 minutes of action for the Ospreys while Jeff Doyle did not register a save in the final 15 minutes.

Sophomore attack David Bennett netted a hat trick including the game-winning goal as Moravian earned its first win of the 2009 season, defeating Gwynedd-Mercy College, 8-5, in non-conference action at Rocco Calvo Field.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead and were ahead 4-1 after the first quarter.  The Griffins, who are in their first year as a varsity sport, scored two of the three goals in the second quarter to pull within 5-3 at halftime.  Moravian scored twice in the third quarter for a 7-3 lead after 45 minutes of action.  Gwynedd-Mercy had a 27-24 edge in shots and won ten of 16 face-offs in the match while the Greyhounds held a 31-28 advantage in ground balls.

Freshman attack Jesse Peterson added two goals for Moravian including a man-down goal in the second quarter, three caused turnovers and four ground balls while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had one goal and one assists to go with three caused turnovers and a team high six ground balls.  Senior attacks Christopher Danni and Jason Tosches each had goals for Moravian while sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp added two assists.

Senior defender Steven Carroll had four ground balls for the Greyhounds while sophomore goalie Benjamin Leavy had 14 saves and three ground balls in his first start of the season.

Freshmen midfielders Stefan Hetland and Nicholas Coan led Gwynedd-Mercy with a goal and two assists each while freshman midfielders Thomas Stewart, Steve Miner and attack Jonathan Schmitt each had goals.  Freshman midfielder Robert Kats led the Griffins by winning ten of 16 face-offs while freshman defender Michael Henry had a team high five ground balls.

Freshman defender Ben Glacken had five ground balls and three caused turnovers while sophomore goalie Kevin Hens had ten saves and six ground balls in the match.

At Elizabethtown College - Lost 14-5 - Boxscore

Aaron Weber had four goals and an assist to lead the Elizabethtown College men’s lacrosse team to a 14-5 non-conference victory over Moravian.  The match was the season opener for the Blue Jays while Moravian was completing its spring break trip with its third straight road contest. 

Senior attack Christopher Danni scored for Moravian just 58 seconds into the match but Elizabethtown scored the next four goals and led 6-2 after 15 minutes.  The Blue Jays had a 9-3 advantage at halftime and led 12-5 after three quarters.  Elizabethtown also had a 53-19 advantage in shots, a 45-22 edge in ground balls and won 19 of 22 face-offs in the match.

Danni led Moravian with three goals while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine added a goal and an assist.  Freshman defender Merrick Smith scored a goal for the Greyhounds while sophomore attacks David Bennett and Christopher Mohapp each had assists.  Senior defender Steven Carroll led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers and three face-off wins while Devine had four ground balls.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 11 saves and two ground balls in just under 52 minutes of action for Moravian while sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy made three saves in a little over eight minutes in goal.

Weber had seven ground balls to go with his five points for Elizabethtown while Greg Kenneally added three goals and an assist.  Evan Cobb also scored three goals for the Blue Jays while Ryan McCafferty had two goals and a team high four assists.  Jon Day added two goals and two assists while leading Elizabethtown with ten ground balls and winning ten of 12 face-offs.  Keith Saulters added two assists for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown goalie Hunter Malick had two saves in just over 54 minutes of action while Austin Hayes had one save in the final 5:56 of the match.

Vs. Marymount (VA) University in Myrtle Beach, SC - Lost 19-4 - Boxscore

The Greyhounds dropped a 19-4 non-conference decision to Marymount (VA) University at Socostee High School in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on the team's spring break trip. The Saints jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 8-1 at the end of the first quarter. Marymount were up 16-1 at halftime and led 19-3 after three quarters. The Saints also had a 59-21 advantage in shots while winning 16 of 25 face-offs.

Sophomore midfielder Robert Devine led Moravian with two goals while senior attack Jason Tosches and sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp each scored a goal. Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 14 saves for the Greyhounds.

Chris Wascak led Marymount with three goals and three assists while Drew Phillips added three goals. Adam Brizendine had two goals and two assists while Tom Anderson added two goals and an assists. Kevin Conklin had a team high four assists to go with a goal for the Saints while Colin Stuart had two goals and an assists and Danny Carson scored two goals.

Marymount used four goalies in the match with Joe Gagliardi making seven of the team's 14 saves in the third quarter. Joe Rafferty won eight of 14 face-offs while Wes Huppenthal won six of seven face-offs for the Saints.

At McDaniel College - Lost 19-4 - Boxscore

Gibbs Preston scored six goals and added two assists to lead the McDaniel College men’s lacrosse team to a season opening 19-4 victory over visiting Moravian in non-conference action.  The Greyhounds dropped their second match of the season as the team heads on its Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Preston started the scoring just over four and a half minutes into the match, and had three goals by the 13:46 mark of the second quarter as the Green Terror built a 6-0 lead.  Moravian would get on the scoreboard with 13:23 remaining in the second quarter when senior attack Christopher Danni scored the first of two straight goals for the Greyhounds. 

McDaniel would lead 10-3 at halftime, and the Green Terror was up 15-4 after three quarters.  McDaniel, which was four-for-four on man-up opportunities in the contest, had a 54-25 advantage in shots and a 45-35 edge in ground balls.  The Green Terror also forced the Greyhounds into 39 turnovers while only turning the ball over 22 times in 60 minutes.  McDaniel won 15 of 26 face-offs in the contest.

In addition to Danni’s two goals, Moravian senior attack Jason Tosches picked up his first two points of the season with a goal and an assist.  Sophomore attack Christopher Mohapp netted a goal for the Greyhounds in his first contest of the season while sophomores attack David Bennett and midfielder Robert Devine each had assists.  Sophomore midfielder David Forte won six of 15 face-offs and had a team high six ground balls for the Greyhounds.

Senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 14 saves in 45 minutes of action for Moravian to become the first goalie in school history to reach 400 career saves, now with 404, and he added three ground balls.  Sophomore keeper Benjamin Leavy added six saves in the final 15 minutes for the Greyhounds.

Preston’s eight points led 12 McDaniel players that scored at least a point.  DJ Rickels added three goals and two assists for five points while Mike Hatton had a goal and two assists for the Green Terror.  Zach Weeden and Matthew Daley each found the back of the cage twice while Deane Mallor and Bill Warner each had a goal and an assist.  Matt Mummert led McDaniel with five ground balls while Jed Barnes won nine of ten face-offs to go with a goal.

The Green Terror used three goalies with Ken McHugh making four saves in 45 minutes of action.  Brad Motley made one save in 11:25minutes of action while KR Schultz had two stops in the final 3:35 of the match.

Vs. Montclair State University - Lost 19-4 - Boxscore

Moravian began its 2009 season with a 19-4 non-conference loss to Montclair State University at Rocco Calvo Field. The Greyhounds jumped on the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Jesse Peterson just under five minutes into the contest.  However, Moravian would not score again until the third quarter as the Red Hawks ran off 12 straight goals to build a 12-1 lead. The match had been tied 1-1 at the end of the first quarter but Montclair State led 7-1 at halftime and 16-3 after three quarters.  The Red Hawks finished the contest with a 50-28 advantage in shots and a 57-31 edge in ground balls while winning 22 of 26 face-offs.

Sophomore attack David Bennett led Moravian with two goals while sophomore midfielder Robert Devine had a goal, which came with a man-down, two assists and five ground balls.  Senior defender Steven Carroll led the Greyhounds with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers while freshman defender Merrick Smith had  four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Peterson added three ground balls to go with his goal.

Sophomore attack Tyler Meth led Montclair State with five goals and an assist while senior attack Tyler Meixner had four goals and two assists.  Junior midfielder Taylor Bonner found the back of the cage three times for the Red Hawks while freshman attack Matthew Prongay and senior midfielder Mario Passafiume each had two goals and an assist.  Senior midfielder John Schiavone and sophomore midfielder Robert Glander were each 11 of 12 on face-offs for the Red Hawks with Glander and Bonner each collecting a team high seven ground balls.  Schiavone added six ground balls.

Moravian senior goalie Benjamin Larson had 11 saves in 45 minutes of action while sophomore keeper Benjamin Larson made one save in the final quarter for the Greyhounds.  Montclair State senior goalie Thomas Bowers made 13 saves.
