Vs. #3 Western Connecticut State University in NCAA East Regional – Lost 1-0
The Greyhounds were knocked out of the 2000 NCAA Division III East Regional in the final game
of day two by third-seeded Western Connecticut State University. Moravian managed just
two hits in the game, singles by sophomore outfielder Summer Miller and junior outfielder Missy
Hummel. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey was the tough luck loser in the contest, allowing
just five hits and the one earned run while striking out one and walking none for the 11th
time this season. The Colonials snapped a scoreless game in the top of the seventh inning
on a two out single by outfielder Sarah Negra. Western Connecticut State first baseman
Stacy Miehe came around to score from second base on the play and need a perfect hook slide
to avoid the tag of Moravian catcher Stacy Matuczinski. The Greyhounds complete the season
with a 26-12 overall record and third in the NCAA Division III East Regional for the second
consecutive year.
Vs. #2 King's College in NCAA East Regional – Won 6-0
The Greyhounds earned some revenge in their first game of the second day at the 2000 NCAA
Division III East Regional. Moravian knocked out second seed and host King's College,
6-0, on the same field on which King's beat Moravian twice two weeks ago to win the Middle
Atlantic Conference Championship. The Greyhounds struck with a run in the top of the
first inning and added two more in the third inning. Moravian closed out the scoring
with three runs in the fifth inning. Senior pitcher Becky Stroup won her 50th career
game on the mound in her 19th career shutout. Stroup allowed just four hits while striking
out five batters and not allowing a walk. At the plate for the Greyhounds, senior shortstop
Zan Azzolino and sophomore outfielders Summer Miller and Sarah Leiby each had two hits in the
game. Azzolino, Leiby and sophomore designated player Deb Noble each had doubles in the
game while Azzolino also added a triple. Leiby drove in a pair of runs while Miller
and Noble each had a RBI.
Vs. #1 The College of New Jersey in NCAA East Regional – Lost 3-0
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup limited top seeded The College of New Jersey to six hits and she
allowed just two earned runs with two strikeouts and a walk but it wasn't enough as Moravian
fell to the Lions, 3-0, in the third game of the 2000 NCAA Division III East Regional. Moravian
had just five hits in the game, singles by sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski, senior third
baseman Krysten Mack, sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler, freshman first baseman Kim
Gehman and freshman pinch hitter Danielle Dest. The Lions scored an unearned run in
the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead and The College of New Jersey added two more runs in the
sixth inning.
Vs. #5 John Jay College (NY) of Criminal Justice – Won 5-0 (5 innings)
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey tossed a two-hitter and sophomore outfielder Summer Miller
led the Greyhound offense with three hits as fourth-seeded Moravian opened the 2000 NCAA Division
III East Regional with a 8-0 win in five innings over fifth-seeded john Jay College (NY) of
Criminal Justice. Mowrey had five strikeouts in the game and she did not walk a batter
for the tenth time this season. The Greyhounds scored a single run in the first inning,
twice in the second, once in the third, three times in the fourth inning and once in the fifth
to institute the NCAA 8-run slaughter rule. Miller was 3-for-3 in the game while five
other players had hits for Moravian. Freshman outfielder Danielle Dest had a triple and
scored the final run of the game while freshman first baseman Kim Gehman had a two-RBI double. The
Greyhounds also had six walks in the game off John Jay starter Heather Stewart.
Vs. King’s College in MAC Championship Game – Lost 5-1
In the MAC Championship game with King’s, the Greyhounds could manage just five hits
with one being a RBI double by sophomore designated player Deb Noble in the fourth inning that
scored sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski in a 5-1 loss. The Monarchs had nine hits off sophomore
pitcher Rachel Mowrey including three doubles to earn the win. Mowrey again did not allow a
walk, the tenth time this season she has not allowed a walk in a game, and she added three
strikeouts.
Vs. Wilkes University at MAC Playoffs – Won 1-0
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup ran her scoreless streak to 32 innings with her second straight
shutout of Wilkes University, 1-0 in the loser’s bracket of the 2000 Middle Atlantic Corporation
Playoffs at King’s College, and her fourth in a row overall. The win put the Greyhounds
in the championship game against Freedom Conference Champion King’s College. Stroup gave
up six hits to the Colonels and walked two batters but she had two strikeouts, stranded seven
runners on base and did not allow a Wilkes player past second base in the game. Moravian scored
in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by senior shortstop Zan Azzolino, a sacrifice
bunt by sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski and a double by sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby.
Sophomore designated player Deb Noble had two of the Greyhounds’ six hits in the game.
Vs. King’s College at MAC Playoffs – Lost 4-1
The Greyhounds out hit the King’s College Monarchs, 9-5, but King’s had a pair of
doubles and a homerun by Angela Santucci to earn the 4-1 win in a winner’s bracket game
on the first day of the 2000 Middle Atlantic Corporation Playoffs hosted by King’s. Sophomore
pitcher Rachel Mowrey suffered the loss for the Greyhounds despite striking out three batters
and walking none for the ninth time this season. Moravian scored its lone run in the fourth
inning on singles by sophomore outfielder Summer Miller and sophomore second baseman Laurie
Rentschler, a sacrifice bunt by senior third baseman Krysten Mack and a single by senior shortstop
Zan Azzolino. Mack had two of the Greyhound’s nine hits in the game.
Vs. Wilkes University at MAC Playoffs – Won 1-0
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup tossed her third straight shutout, limiting the Wilkes University
Colonels to five hits while striking out five batters and walking none in the first game of
the 2000 Middle Atlantic Corporation Playoffs for Moravian at King’s College. The Greyhounds,
who won 1-0, scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when sophomore
designated player Deb Noble led off by reaching on an error. After a wild pitch moved her to
second base, freshman first baseman Kim Gehman sacrificed Noble to third. Sophomore outfielder
Summer Miller grounded out before sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler hit a 0-2 pitch
into left field to score Noble.
Vs. Muhlenberg College – Canceled
Moravian’s twice-rescheduled doubleheader with rival Muhlenberg College has been canceled
due to Muhlenberg’s Centennial Conference schedule.
Vs. Susquehanna University – Won 3-0
Moravian won the second game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader over Susquehanna
University by a 3-0 score as well as sophomore Rachel Mowrey limited Susquehanna to four hits
while striking out two. The Greyhounds scored a pair of runs in the second inning with two
outs. Sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler singles with one out and scored on a ball
hit by senior third baseman Krysten Mack. Susquehanna shortstop Shana Lalo fielded Mack’s
ground and tagged out sophomore outfielder Summer Miller for the second out of the inning and
tried to get Rentschler at second base for the double play but her throw would roll out into
right field allowing Rentschler to score and Mack to reach second base. Senior shortstop Zan
Azzolino followed with a bunt single to move Mack to third and Susquehanna pitcher Katy Alwine
threw the ball late and away to allow Mack to score. The Greyhounds added a run in the sixth
inning on a one-out single by Leiby, a ground out by Noble and a RBI single by Miller.
Vs. Susquehanna University – Won 3-0
Senior Becky Stroup tossed a three-hit shutout and sophomore designated player Deb Noble hit
a three-run homerun to lead Moravian to a 3-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against
Susquehanna University in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian, which finishes the
regular season at 22-8 overall and 12-2 in the MAC Commonwealth Conference, will be off until
the Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs start on Friday, April 28th at King’s
College. The 2000 MAC Commonwealth Conference Champion Greyhounds will play the MAC Freedom
Conference runner-up Wilkes University on Friday at 1:00 p.m. while MAC Freedom Conference
Champion King’s College will play Widener University in Friday’s other first round
game at 11:00 a.m. Moravian and King’s earn automatic berths to the NCAA Division III
Tournament with the regular season championships. Stroup scattered three hits in the 3-0 win
and struck out five batters as she posted her fifth shutout of the season and the 16th of her
career in her final home game at Moravian. Stroup would get all the offense she would need
in the fourth inning. With one out, sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski singled and moved to
second when the Crusader second baseman dropped the ball on a fielder’s choice by sophomore
outfielder Sarah Leiby. Noble followed up with her three-run homer to right field on a 2-2
pitch. Noble’s shot, her second of the season, bounced off Susquehanna right fielder Christina
Keister’s glove before going over the fence.
Vs. Wilkes University & The College of New Jersey – Canceled
The Greyhounds Round-Robin Tournament with Wilkes University and The College of New Jersey
was canceled due to rain.
Vs. Delaware Valley College – Won 10-2 (6 innings)
Freshman pitcher Jillian Simms tossed a five-hitter in her first collegiate start and sophomore
designated player Deb Noble drove in four runs as Moravian earned a 10-2, six-inning victory
over Delaware Valley College in Middle Atlantic Conference action. Simms gave up single runs
in the third and fourth innings but she allowed just two hits in the other four innings to
earn the win. Simms had two strikeouts and two walks in the game. Noble, who had 30 RBIs on
the season after today’s game, hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning, a two-run double
in the fourth inning and a ground out in the sixth inning that enable the Greyhounds to use
the NCAA eight-run slaughter rule to end the game. Junior outfielder Missy Hummel was 3-for-4
in the game and scored three runs while sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski had a 3-for-3 day
with three runs scored. Freshman outfielder Danielle Dest drove in two runs with a single in
the sixth inning while sophomore Summer Miller added a two-RBI single in the third inning.
Vs. Albright College – Won 5-4
The Greyhounds rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the final inning to win the second game of a
MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill with Albright College, 5-4, and clinch a sport in the
2000 Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs April 28th and 29th. Freshman first baseman Kim Gehman
hit a one-out single to right field to score sophomore designated player Deb Noble and end
the game. Noble, who had three hits in the game, hit a ball to right field that was booted
by the Albright fielder and sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby, who hit a one-single to start
the rally, beat the throw out at home to tie the game. Gehman was part of a controversial play
to end Albright’s half of the seventh inning. With two outs and runners on second and
third, Albright’s Jamie Eisenhower hit a ball to right field that Moravian right fielder
Summer Miller threw the ball to Gehman at first to record the final out. The throw reach Gehman
before Eisenhower stepped on first but Gehman dropped the throw. However, the field umpire
ruled Gehman held the ball long enough for the out and ended the inning. Miller and Gehman
each had two hits for the Greyhounds in the game. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey picked up
the win on the mound for the Greyhounds.
Vs. Albright College – Won 4-0
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and sophomore second
baseman Laurie Rentschler had two hits and a double to lead the Greyhounds to a 4-0 victory
over Albright College in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. Rentschler scored the only run
Stroup would need in the second inning. She was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice
bunt by senior third baseman Krysten Mack and scored on an error on a ground ball hit by senior
shortstop Zan Azzolino. The Greyhounds added three runs in the third inning on a double by
sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski, a walk by freshman first baseman Kim Gehman, singles by
sophomore outfielder Summer Miller and Rentschler and an intentional rundown. Matuczinski had
two hits in the game.
At Elizabethtown, PA – Won 5-2
Moravian moved closer to its first MAC Commonwealth Conference Championship since 1997 and
its third straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance with a 5-2 victory over Elizabethtown
College to give the Greyhounds a crucial sweep in the MAC Commonwealth Conference race. At
the end of action Saturday, Moravian held a one game lead with four games to play. Sophomore
catcher Stacy Matuczinski had two of Moravian’s six hits in the game. Sophomore pitcher
Rachel Mowrey was touched for two unearned runs while scattering five hits and striking out
three batters.
At Elizabethtown College – Won 7-1
The Greyhounds picked up a 7-1 win over Elizabethtown College in the first game of a MAC Commonwealth
Conference twinbill behind senior pitcher Becky Stroup. Stroup recorded her ninth win of the
season and allowed four hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out three. Sophomore
outfielder Summer Miller had three of Moravian’s 11 hits including a double. Miller also
had one RBI as did freshman first baseman Kim Gehman, who also had a triple and two hits. Sophomore
outfielder Sarah Leiby was 2-for-4 in the game with two RBIs, two runs scored, a double and
a triple while sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored,
two RBIs and a triple.
Vs. Messiah College – Won 9-1 (5 innings)
Moravian salvaged the second game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill with Messiah College
by winning the contest 9-1 in five innings. Sophomores catcher Stacy Matuczinski, outfielder
Sarah Leiby, designated player Deb Noble and second baseman Laurie Rentschler each had two
hits for Moravian in the game as the Greyhounds has 12 hits. Noble drove in four runs while
Matuczinski and Rentschler each had two RBIs. Sophomore Rachel Mowrey earned the victory on
the mound by allowing two hits and the one run.
Vs. Messiah College – Lost 5-1
The Greyhounds gave away the first game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader to Messiah
College with three errors and four unearned runs in the first inning of a 5-1 loss. Messiah’s
other run was also unearned due to another of Moravian’s five errors in the game. The
Greyhounds had just three hits in the game with two in the sixth inning when the team scored
its lone run. Junior outfielder Missy Hummel hit a single and scored on a one-out single by
sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby. Sophomore outfielder Summer Miller had Moravian’s other
hit. Senior Becky Stroup suffered the loss on the mound despite allowing just three hits and
striking out five.
At William Paterson University – Canceled
Due to a rescheduled MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Messiah College, the Greyhounds
had to cancel their twinbill at William Paterson University for this season.
Vs. Messiah College – Postponed to April 13th
Moravian’s doubleheader with Messiah College was postponed until Thursday, April 13th at
3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.
Vs. Muhlenberg College – Postponed
The Greyhounds doubleheader with rival Muhlenberg College was postponed due to snow and has
been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 25th at 3:00 pm.
Vs. Juniata College – Won 12-0 (5 innings)
In game two of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader against Juniata College, sophomore
hurler Rachel Mowrey tossed a one hitter for the Greyhounds in a 12-0 win. She had six strikeouts
in the game and did not walk a batter for the sixth time this season. Mowrey is 5-4 on the
year. Moravian plated five runs in the first inning, three runs in both the second and third
innings and one run in the fourth enroute to the 12-0 win. Senior shortstop Zan Azzolino was
four-for-four in the contest with a RBI, a triple and a run scored while sophomore outfielder
Sarah Leiby three-for-three with two RBIs and a double. Sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler
drove in a pair of runs on a triple in the first inning while freshman first baseman Kim Gehman
has two hits and two RBIs in the game. Sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski connected for two
base hits and a RBI while sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble had one hit and drove in two
runs.
Vs. Juniata College – Won 12-1 (5 innings)
In the first game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, Juniata College scored its
only run of the day in the top of the first inning in a 12-1 loss. The Greyhounds responded
in the bottom of the first inning with ten runs and added two more tallies in the third inning.
Leading the hit parade for Moravian was sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble, who was three-for-three
in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder Summer Miller also had
three hits in the game while sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler had two hits and four
RBIs in the contest. Freshman first baseman Kim Gehman and sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski
each had two hits in the game and also added a RBI. Senior pitcher Becky Stroup limited Juniata
to just two hits after the first inning and four overall while striking out five and walking
three for her eighth win of the season.
At Rowan University – Lost 2-1
In game two of a doubleheader at Rowan University, sophomore Rachel Mowrey limited the Profs
to seven hits and two runs but the Greyhounds managed just four hits in the 2-1 loss. One of
the runs Mowrey allowed was unearned. Sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble drove in the Greyhounds
run with a RBI double in the fourth inning that scored sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby, who
had led off the inning with a walk.
At Rowan University – Lost 8-0 (5 innings)
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup was touched for eight runs on seven hits and three Greyhound errors
in the fourth inning of the first game of a doubleheader with NCAA Division III East Region
power Rowan University that the Greyhounds lost 8-0. Only two of the runs were earned and Stroup
had four strikeouts in the contest. Moravian was limited to five hits with on a double by sophomore
outfielder Sarah Leiby.
Vs. Albright College
Tuesday’s MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus Albright College has been postponed
until April 18th at 3:00 p.m. due to the weather.
At Lebanon Valley College – Lost 7-3
In the second game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College,
sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby and senior shortstop Zan Azzolino each had two hits as the
Greyhounds connected on eight hits in a 7-3 loss to the Flying Dutchwomen. Leiby also had a
double. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey suffered the loss on the mound, giving up ten hits
and a walk while striking out two batters.
At Lebanon Valley College – Won 2-0 (8 innings)
Senior Becky Stroup and the Greyhounds needed an extra inning in the first game of a MAC Commonwealth
Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College to earn the 2-0 win. Stroup scattered six
hits in her third shutout of the season and allowed just two walks while striking out a career
best ten batters. Moravian scored two runs in the eighth inning on a RBI single by sophomore
cathcer Stacy Matuczinski, who was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double, and
the first collegiate homerun of sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby’s career.
At Widener University – Won 6-0
In the second contest of a MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Widener University,
sophomore Rachel Mowrey tossed a four-hit shutout with no walks and no strikeouts for a 6-0
Moravian win. Freshman first baseman Kim Gehman again led Moravian with three hits and she
had a pair of doubles. Junior outfielder Missy Hummel had two hits, which were both doubles,
and a RBI in the contest while senior shortstop ZanAzzolino also had two hits and a pair of
RBIs.
At Widener University – Won 6-5
Moravian had to hold off a Widener University rally in the seventh inning to win the first
game of a MAC Commonwealth Conference twinbill, 6-5. Sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby threw
out a runner at the plate from left field to end the game. Sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski
and freshman first baseman Kim Gehman each had three hits and a double in the game. Senior
shortstop Zan Azzolino added a two-RBI triple while sophomore outfielder Summer Miller had
two hits and a RBI. Senior pitcher Becky Stroup gave up 13 hits and a pair of walks in the
game and also had three strikeouts but earned the win.
At Ursinus College – Lost 5-2
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey didn’t allow a walk for the fourth time this season but
was touched for eight hits and five runs as Moravian dropped the second game of a doubleheader
to Ursinus College, 5-2. Sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble had three of Moravian’s
seven hits in the game including a double. Senior shortstop Zan Azzolino had a RBI double.
At Ursinus College – Won 3-1
Senior Becky Stroup scattered six hits and allowed one earned run, a walk and had two strikeouts
to lead the Greyhounds to a 3-1 victory over Ursinus College in Moravian’s first game
in the state of Pennsylvania this season. Junior outfielder Missy Hummel, and sophomores catcher
Stacy Matuczinski and outfielder Summer Miller each had two hits in the game with Matuczinski
hitting a double. Sophomore designated hitter Deb Noble drove in one of the Greyhounds runs
with a sacrifice fly.
At Lebanon Valley College – Postponed
Moravian’s season opening MAC Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley
College was postponed until Sunday, April 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in Annville.
Vs. Methodist College (NC) at 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch Classic – Won 1-0
Senior Becky Stroup allowed Methodist College (NC) just two hits and she had three strikeouts
and allowed three walks in a 1-0 victory in the 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch Classic in
Salem, Virginia. The shutout was Stroup’s second shutout of the season. Sophomore Laurie
Rentschler had two of the Greyhounds four hits in the game while freshman Danielle Dest drove
in the games only run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice to score
sophomore Deb Noble.
Vs. Frostburg State University (MD) at 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch Classic – Won
6-1
Sophomore Rachel Mowrey scattered four hits and allowed just one run with no walks and eight
strikeouts in a 6-1 win over Frostburg State University (MD) in the 2000 East Coast College
Fastpitch Classic in Salem, Virginia. Senior Krysten Mack had two hits in the game for the
Greyhounds.
Vs. Bridgewater College (VA) at 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch Classic – Won
4-3 (9 inn)
The Greyhounds scored a run in the top of the ninth inning and senior Becky Stroup held the
Bridgewater College (VA) Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the inning to give the Greyhounds
a 4-3 victory in the first game of the 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch Classic hosted by
Bridgewater and Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. Stroup, now 3-2 on the season, limited
Bridgewater to six hits and had four walks and three strikeouts. The Greyhounds, now 6-3 on
the year, were held to just five hits in the game. Sophomore Summer Miller had a double in
the contest. Moravian’s second and third games at the 2000 East Coast College Fastpitch
Classic were postponed until Sunday due to rain.
Vs. Muhlenberg College – Postponed to April 2nd
The Moravian College vs. Muhlenberg College softball game scheduled for Tuesday, March 21st
was postponed due to the weather. It has tentatively been rescheduled for Sunday, April 2ndat
Moravian.
Vs. Lynchburg College (VA) at Salisbury State Sea Gull Invitational – Won 8-1
Sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski was three-for-three with two doubles and sophomore designated
hitter Deb Noble connected on the first homerun of her career as Moravian defeated Lynchburg
College (VA), 8-1, in the final game of the Salisbury State University Sea Gull Invitational.
Noble’s homerun was a three-run shot in the seventh inning, which put the game away. Junior
outfielder Missy Hummel, senior shortstop Zan Azzolino and freshman outfielder Danielle Dest
each had two hits in the game with Azzolino driving in two runs. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey
had two walks and five strikeouts in the win.
Vs. Cabrini College at Salisbury State Sea Gull Invitational – Lost 7-2
Moravian was limited to just four hits in a 7-2 loss to Cabrini College at the Salisbury State
University Sea Gull Invitational. The Greyhounds two runs were scored on back-to-back RBI doubles
by sophomores first baseman Deb Noble and second baseman Laurie Rentschler. Senior Becky Stroup
suffered the loss on the mound with four strikeouts and four walks.
Vs. Western Maryland at Salisbury State Sea Gull Invitational – Lost 6-3
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey had a career best ten strikeouts and allowed no walks but
the Greyhounds lost to Western Maryland College, 6-3, at the Salisbury State University Sea
Gull Classic. Sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby had three of Moravian’s eight hits in the
game while sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski and first baseman Deb Noble each had RBI doubles.
Vs. St. Joseph’s College (ME) at Salisbury State Sea Gull Invitational – Won
14-5
The Greyhounds pounded out 17 hits with five players getting three hits a piece in a 14-5
victory over St. Joseph’s College (ME) at the Salisbury State University Sea Gull Invitational.
Sophomore first baseman Deb Noble had three hits and a total of five RBIs in the game. Junior
outfielder Missy Hummel, senior shortstop Zan Azzolino and sophomore outfielders Sarah Leiby
and Summer Miller also had three hits in the game. Miller had two doubles while Leiby had a

Junior outfielder Missy Hummel and sophomore outfielder Sarah Leiby Each had two hits but
it wasn’t enough as Moravian lost to Salisbury State University (MD) in the championship
bracket of the Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Marling Tournament. Moravian pitcher senior Becky
Stroup was touched for three runs in the first inning before settling down and allowing nine
hits and three walks while striking out six. Freshman designated player Danielle Dest added
a triple for the Greyhounds.
Vs. North Carolina Wesleyan at Virginia Wesleyan Lady Marlin Tournament – Won 4-2
Junior pitcher Meg Ryan scattered eight hits and allowed just two runs as Moravian defeated
North Carolina Wesleyan College, a preseason nationally ranked team, 4-2 at the Virginia Wesleyan
Lady Marlin Tournament. Senior shortstop Zan Azzolino, sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler
and sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski each had two hits in the contest with Matuczinski driving
in the winning run with a two-run single in the sixth inning.
Vs. Mary Washington College (VA) at Virginia Wesleyan Lady Marlin Tournament – Won
9-2
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mowrey allowed just seven hits and two unearned runs while striking
out four batters to led Moravian to a 9-2 victory over Mary Washington College (VA) at the
Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Marlin Tournament. Junior outfielder Missy Hummel led Moravian
with three hits while junior first baseman Meg Ryan added two hits, two runs scored, three
RBIs and a double. Sophomore designated player Deb Noble hit a two-run triple before leaving
the game with an injury. Sophomore outfielder Summer Miller and senior third baseman Krysten
Mack each had two hits and a RBI in the game while sophomore second baseman Laurie Rentschler
had two RBIs in the game.
Vs. Chowan College (NC) at Virginia Wesleyan Lady Marlin Tournament – Won 8-0
Senior pitcher Becky Stroup tossed s four-hit shutout with six strikeouts to help the Greyhounds
open the 2000 season with a 8-0 win over Chowan College (NC) at the Virginia Wesleyan College
Lady Marlin Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Senior shortstop Zan Azzolino was two-for-two
in the game with three runs scored while sophomore catcher Stacy Matuczinski added three hits
and a RBI.
