Division III World Series at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia as eighth
seeded Moravian fell to second seeded the University of St. Thomas (MN), 2-0, in the national
championships game. The Greyhounds complete the 2004 season with a 40-6 record, a school record
for victories. The Tommies, which have won an NCAA Division III record 41 consecutive games,
scored a pair of the runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 2-0 victory. Kathleen Fitzpatrick
had a bunt single with one out and moved to second on a stolen base. Fitzpatrick scored on
a two-out RBI single to left centerfield by Nikki Conway. Conway, who moved to third on a Moravian
error, eventually scored on an RBI single by Michelle Wong. The Greyhounds had just one hit
in the game, a double by junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi in the third inning. Moravian sophomore
pitcher Meagan Hennessy allowed just two runs, only one earned, on five hits and no walks.
Hennessy, who finished the season at 22-4, also struck out three batters to complete the year
with a school record 168 strikeouts. Hennessy was an at-large selection to the All-Tournament
Team as was Moravian senior outfielder Melissa Soroka. Greyhounds freshman first base Lauren
Homa also made the All-Tournament Team at her position.

Moravian, the eighth seed, reached the championship game of the 2004 NCAA Division III World
Series at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia with a 1-0 victory over fourth
seeded Salisbury (MD) University in the final elimination game of the tournament. The win was
the 40th of the season for the Greyhounds, the first team in school history in any sport to
win 40 contests in a season. The game was delayed for nearly four hours by lightening within
the eight-mile radius of the Moyer Sports Complex. The contest was halted at 1:58 p.m. with
no score in the bottom of the second inning and resumed at 5:50 p.m. The Greyhounds scored
the only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Junior second baseman Leah Holmes
led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Senior third baseman Janelle Brey
sacrificed Holmes to third before Holmes scored on a wild pitch. The Greyhounds had six hits
in the contest with Holmes going two-for-three. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy earned her
school record 11th shutout of the season for Moravian, improving to 22-3 overall. Hennessy
scattered four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters including the final batter
of the game looking.

The Greyhounds suffered their first loss in the double elimination 2004 NCAA Division III
World Series in Salem, Virginia, falling to second seeded University of St. Thomas (MN), 5-0,
in the final game of the winner's bracket. Moravian, the eighth seed, falls into the loser's
bracket, playing Salisbury (MD) University in the final elimination game prior to the championship
round on Monday. The Tommies, who have won an NCAA Division III record 40 straight games, scored
the only run they would need in the third inning on a solo home run to deep left field by Nikki
Conway. St. Thomas added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Katie Wiberg. The Tommies
scored twice in the sixth inning on a two-RBI single by Carrie Embree, and St. Thomas finished
off the scoring with an RBI single by Kristi Huegel in the top of the seventh inning. The Tommies
had eight hits in the game while Moravian had just three hits, all infield singles, by senior
third baseman Janelle Brey, senior outfielder Jessica Esposito and freshman first baseman Lauren
Homa. The closest Moravian came to scoring was in the fifth inning when Homa and Esposito hit
back-to-back singles and moved to second and third on a wild pitch with one out. However, St.
Thomas Janet Nagle struck out junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi and junior shortstop Heather
Bortz to get out of the inning. Moravian sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy dropped to 21-3
on the season, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.

For the second straight day, Moravian, the eighth seed, rallied from an early deficit late
in the game to force extra innings in a 6-5, 11-inning victory over fourth seeded Salisbury
(MD) University in a winner's bracket game at the 2004 Division III World Series in Salem,
Virginia. The Greyhounds will now play second seeded the University of St. Thomas (MN) at 5:00
p.m. on Sunday in the final game of the winner's bracket. The winner of that contest will move
into the championship round while the loser will drop into the loser's bracket. Salisbury jumped
out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single up the middle by Leslie White
and an RBI infield single by Suzy Gill. The Sea Gulls extended their lead to 3-0 in the top
of the third inning on an RBI double by White. Salisbury took a 4-0 lead in the top of the
fourth inning when Kim Rementer scored on a wild pitch by Moravian senior starter Donna Weiner.
The Greyhounds finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning and cut Salisbury's
lead in half to 4-2 with a pair of runs. Sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams doubled
to center field with one out and was pinch run for by freshman LeeAnna Roberts. Freshman catcher
Danielle Carrione hit an infield single to move Roberts to third base, and freshman first baseman
Lauren Homa drove in Roberts with a single up the middle. Senior outfielder Jessica Esposito
followed with an RBI double to left centerfield to score Carrione. Salisbury would plate another
run in the top of the fifth inning on a Moravian error before the Greyhounds tied the game
in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs in the sixth, Homa singled to left field and
moved to second on a wild pitch. Esposito drew a walk and was pinch run for by senior Megan
Smith. Junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi also drew a walk to load the bases for junior shortstop
Heather Bortz. Bortz ripped a two RBI single to the gap in right centerfield and was thrown
out trying to reach third base after a Salisbury error but not before all three runs had crossed
the plate to tie the game at 6-6. In the extra innings, each team had chances to score with
Salisbury stranding runners at third base in the seventh, eighth and 11th innings. The Greyhounds
left the bases loaded in the eighth and runners at second base in the ninth and tenth innings.
Moravian would finally score the winning run in the bottom of the 11th. Senior third baseman
Janelle Brey led off with a walk and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Senior outfielder
Melissa Soroka laid down a sacrifice bunt towards first base but a Salisbury error on the play
allowed Brey to score from second base on the play. For the second straight game at the World
Series, the Greyhounds were out hit, 15-11. Homa was three-for-five for Moravian with Bortz
adding two hits. White led Salisbury with four hits while Erin Ruest had three hits. Rementer
and Nichole Fuqua each added two hits for the Sea Gulls. Weiner tossed the first six-plus innings
for the Greyhounds, allowing five runs, just three earned, on 12 hits. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy
improved to 21-2 on the season, earning the victory with a scoreless five innings of relief.
Hennessy allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out one batter after replacing
Weiner with a runner on in the top of the seventh inning. Lacey Lister suffered the loss for
Salisbury. She allowed six runs, four of them earned, on ten hits and seven walks while striking
out six batters in 9 2/3 innings. Ruest pitched to three batters in the eighth inning, allowing
a hit.

The Greyhounds, the number eight seed, rallied from a 5-0 first inning deficit for a 7-6,
nine-inning victory over top seeded Chapman (CA) University in the first game of the 2004 World
Series The win moves Moravian into a winners bracket game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. versus the
winner of the #4 Salisbury (MD) University-#5 Alma (MI) College game. The Panthers scored five
times in the bottom of the first inning off of Moravian starter, sophomore Meagan Hennessy.
Brittany Ziegler drove in the first run with an RBI single and Jill Jeranko added an RBI single
with the bases loaded for a 2-0 lead. Sandra Burns followed with a bases-clearing double for
the 5-0 lead. Moravian, which had loaded the bases in the second inning, got on the board in
the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams led off the a
double to dead center field. Freshman LeeAnna Roberts came into pinch run for McWilliams and
moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman catcher Danielle Carrione. After a ground out,
senior outfielder Jessica Esposito delivered an RBI single to center field to cut Chapman's
lead to 5-1. However, the Panthers would regain their five-run lead in the bottom of the sixth
inning on an RBI suicide squeeze bunt by Melissa Simerlink to score Ziegler to make the score
6-1. The Greyhounds, who had also left the bases loaded in the fifth inning, would tie the
game and force extra-innings with a five-run inning of their own in the top of the seventh
inning, knotting the score at 6-6. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz reached on an error to lead
off the inning and moved to second on a single by senior pinch hitter Jenn Hastings. Senior
third baseman Janelle Brey loaded the bases with a single. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka
grounded into a fielder's choice to score Bortz. Junior second baseman Leah Holmes, who had
come back into the game after Hastings reached second base, scored on a the third of three
consecutive wild pitches that also allowed Soroka to move to third base. McWilliams drew a
walk to put runners on the corners with one out. Junior Stephanie Eddinger came into pinch
run for McWilliams. After a Panther pitching change, Carrione hit a deep fly ball down the
left field line for a sacrifice fly to score Soroka, cutting Chapman's lead to 6-4. Freshman
first baseman Lauren Homa followed with a two-run home run to left field, her second homer
of the season, to tie the game at 6-6. With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Eddinger,
who remained in the game as the designated player, walked and moved to second base on a sacrifice
by Carrione. Eddinger moved to third on a passed ball, using a back door slide to beat the
throw. Homa followed with a single to center field to score Eddinger with the winning run.
Moravian finished the game with 12 hits including three by Brey and two each from Esposito
and Homa. Chapman did get 14 hits in the game with three by Ziegler and Melissa Simerlink and
two each from Jeranko, Burns and Keely Starr. Hennessy became the first player in Moravian
history to win 20 games in a season in the circle, improving to 20-2 on the year. Hennessy
allowed 14 hits and three walks and for the first time this season, did not strikeout a batter.
Marissa Becerra started for Chapman, allowing four runs, just two earned on nine hits and a
walk with one strikeout in 6 1/3 innings. Maggie Wilder dropped to 12-4 for the Panthers, allowing
three runs, all unearned on three hits and two walks.

Moravian earned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III World Series with a 1-0 victory
over second seeded and host Ramapo College of New Jersey in the championship of the NCAA Regionals.
Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy tossed her school record tenth shutout of the season and
improved to 19-2 on the year. Hennessy scattered three hits and three walks while striking
out eight batter. Hennessy struck out the first two batters of the game and struck out the
final batter of the game looking. The Greyhounds scored the only run of the game in the top
of the third inning. Freshman first baseman Lauren Homa led off with a single to left field
and senior outfielder Jessica Esposito and junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi followed with
bunt singles to load the bases. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz drew a walk to score Homa. Moravian
left runners at second and third base in the inning after a double play. The Greyhounds had
just five hits in the game with two from Homa. Homa, Hennessy, Cianfichi, sophomore designated
player Richelle McWilliams and senior third baseman Janelle Brey were all named to the All-Tournament
Team.

second consecutive season with a 4-2 victory over second seed and host Ramapo College of New
Jersey. Moravian, the top seed will play the winner of the final elimination game on Sunday,
May 9th at 12:00 p.m. in the championship game. Should the Greyhounds lose that contest, there
will be an if necessary game in the double-elimination tournament at 2:00 p.m. The Roadrunners
took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Lisa Rizzo reached on a Moravian error, and
pinch runner Shellie Guider scored on another Greyhound error. Moravian responded with two
runs in the bottom half of the second inning for a 2-1 lead. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka
led off the Greyhounds half of the inning with a single up the middle. With one out, freshman
catcher Danielle Carrione laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a Ramapo throwing error
that allowed Soroka to score and Carrione to move to third base. Freshman first baseman Lauren
Homa followed with an RBI single to right field to score Carrione. Ramapo tied the game in
the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run to left field by Rizzo to lead off the inning.
Moravian retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior outfielder
Jessica Esposito reached on catcher's interference to lead off the inning and was pinch run
for by junior Stephanie Eddinger. After a bunt single by junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi,
junior shortstop Heather Bortz grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners.
Senior pinch hitter Jenn Hastings ground out to shortstop, scoring Eddinger and moving Bortz
to third. Bortz would score on a wild pitch for a 4-2 Greyhound lead. Moravian had just five
hits in the game with two by sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams. Senior pitcher
Donna Weiner won her 16th straight decision to move to 16-1 on the year. Weiner allowed two

hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey. The Greyhounds defeated fourth seeded Union (NY) College,
5-2, to advance in the winners bracket game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. versus the host Roadrunners.
The win was Moravian's 35th of the season, setting the school record for all sports. The Greyhounds
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz
was hit by the first pitch of the inning. She moved to second base on a passed ball before
a sacrifice bunt by freshman first baseman Lauren Homa. Senior third baseman Janelle Brey hit
a sacrifice fly to right field to score Bortz. The Dutchwomen tied the game at 1-1 in the top
of the second inning. Union loaded the bases with no outs but was able to score just on run
on a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Rubino. Moravian would load the bases in the bottom of the
second inning, however, the Greyhounds were unable to score. Moravian also had runners at second
and third in the third inning. Union took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a bases
loaded RBI single by Rubino. Moravian would load the bases again in the bottom of the fourth
inning, but this time the Greyhounds would push four runs across the plate for a 5-2 lead.
Brey started the scoring with a two-RBI single to center field. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka
and sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams followed with RBI singles to left field.
Moravian would strand runners at second and third in the inning. The Greyhounds pounded out
11 hits in the game with Brey, Soroka, McWilliams and freshman catcher Danielle Carrione each
collecting two hits. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy won her school record 18th game of the
season, improving to 18-2. Hennessy allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The Greyhounds earned their fourth straight Commonwealth Conference Tournament Championship
and garnered the team's seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament with a
2-1 victory over second seeded Lebanon Valley College in the championship game of the 2004
Commonwealth Conference Tournament hosted by the Flying Dutchmen. Moravian, which was the top
seed in the tournament, will wait until late Sunday night or early Monday morning to find out
where this year's regional will be held. The win also helped the Greyhounds tie the school
record for victories in a season with the team's 34th win of the year. Moravian, ranked seventh
in the nation, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka
singled to lead off the inning, her third hit of the game, and scored on an RBI fielder's choice
by senior outfielder Jessica Esposito. Freshman catcher Danielle Carrione, who had walked with
one out, scored on an RBI single by sophomore pinch hitter Richelle McWilliams. Lebanon Valley
cut the Greyhounds lead in half in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run. Mandi Nace hit
a two-out RBI single to score Missy Ulrich, who had led off the inning with a single. Moravian
finished the game with eight hits including the three by Soroka. Senior Donna Weiner won her
15th consecutive game in the circle for the Greyhounds, improving to 15-1 on the season. Weiner
allowed a run on ten hits while striking out one batter.

in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior outfielder Melissa Soroka led off the inning
with a single and scored on an RBI single by senior outfielder Jessica Esposito. The Flying
Dutchmen retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a RBI fielder's choice by Amy
Batz to score Ilyse Resnick. Moravian had just three hits in the game including a triple by
junior shortstop Heather Bortz, which was her 68th of the season, breaking her own single season
school record. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy, who suffered just her second loss of the
season on the mound for Moravian, became just the second player in school history to reach
300 career strikeouts with a strikeout in the second inning. Hennessy, now 17-2 on the year,
allowed two runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

lead. Junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi led off the inning by reaching on an error. Junior
shortstop Heather Bortz followed with an infield single before Homa reached on another Lebanon
Valley error to load the bases. Cianfichi would score on a wild pitch before senior third baseman
Janelle Brey drove in Bortz with an RBI single to centerfield. Homa would score on an infield
RBI single by freshman catcher Danielle Carrione. Moravian would score four times in the bottom
of the fifth inning to institute the NCAA's eight-run mercy rule. Carrione drove in Brey with
an RBI single wile senior second baseman Megan Smith hit a sacrifice fly to score senior pinch
hitter Jenn Hastings. Junior pinch hitter Stephanie Eddinger had an infield RBI single to score
Carrione, and Bortz drove in the final run of the game, scoring senior outfielder Jessica Esposito
with an RBI single. Moravian pounded out 11 hits in the game with Bortz, Brey and Carrione
each collecting two hits. Bortz's two hits gave her 67 for the season, tying her own single
season record set last year.

Moravian got a run back in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by senior third
baseman Janelle Brey to score junior shortstop Heather Bortz. The Greyhounds took the lead
with four runs on just one hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Leah Holmes scored
the first run on a bases loaded walk by freshman first baseman Lauren Homa. Junior outfielder
Krissy Cianfichi scored the tying run on a bases loaded walk by Brey. Bortz, who had the only
hit of the inning, gave Moravian the lead at 4-3 when she scored on a Juniata error. Homa scored
the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly in foul territory by sophomore designated hitter
Richelle McWilliams. Moravian had just six hits in the game with two each by Bortz and Brey.
Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy won her school record-tying 17th game of the season. She
allowed three runs on five hits, two hit batters and a walk while striking out three batters.

At Dickinson College - Cancelled
The Greyhounds' final non-conference doubleheader of the season at Dickinson College has been
cancelled for Tuesday. Dickinson must play its final Centennial Conference doubleheader that
evening. The games will not be rescheduled this season.
At Muhlenberg College - Cancelled
Moravian's make-up doubleheader with rival Muhlenberg College at Patriots Park in Allentown
was cancelled due to rain for a second time this season and will not be rescheduled.
At Widener University - Won 7-0 Boxscore
The Greyhounds swept their 11th doubleheader of the season and finished the 2004 Commonwealth
Conference season with an undefeated record of 14-0 after a 7-0 victory at Widener University
in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference twinbill. The undefeated conference season
is a first for Moravian, which will be the top seed at the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament
beginning on April 30th at Lebanon Valley College. Senior Donna Weiner improved to 13-1 on
the mound with her fifth shutout victory of the season for Moravian. Weiner scattered three
hits and a walk while striking out seven batters. The Greyhounds gave Weiner all the offense
she would need with a run in the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz led
off the game with a walk and scored on a ground out by senior third baseman Janelle Brey. Moravian
added two runs in the top of the third inning for a 3-0 lead. Bortz hit an RBI double to left
field to score junior second baseman Leah Holmes, and Bortz scored on an RBI single by Brey.
The Greyhounds doubled their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning with three runs. Bortz
had an RBI single to left field, Brey connected on a sacrifice fly to right field and the final
run scored on an error. Moravian finished off the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh
inning when Bortz, who had singled with one out, scored on a wild pitch. The hit by Bortz was
her third of the game and the 180th of her career, tying the school record of 180 set by Christine
Hill from 1995-1998. Moravian had just seven hits in the game with freshman outfielder Lauren
Homa collecting two in addition to Bortz's three hits.

Moravian opened its final Commonwealth Conference doubleheader of the season with a 4-2 victory
at Widener University, clinching the Greyhounds' fourth straight 30-win season and snapping
a two-game losing streak. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when junior
shortstop Heather Bortz hit an infield RBI single to score freshman first baseman Lauren Homa.
Widener scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead on a bases loaded
single and a bases loaded walk. The Greyhounds took the lead for good in the top of the fifth
inning when Bortz scored on a passed ball and sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams
drove in senior third baseman Janelle Brey with a sacrifice fly to left field. Moravian added
a run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Bortz to score Homa again. Moravian
had just six hits in the game with two by Bortz, who has hit safely in 50 of Moravian's last
51 games. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy improved to 16-1 in the circle for the Greyhounds.
She broke her own school record set earlier this season with 15 strikeouts in the game. Hennessy
allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in addition to the 15 strikeouts.

The Greyhounds were swept in their first doubleheader of the season, falling to William Paterson
(NJ) University, 4-0 in the second game of a non-conference twinbill. William Paterson took
a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Freshman outfielder Brandi Kavaliauskas singled
to lead off the inning and scored on a double down the left field line by Liz Sisca. The run
snapped a 32-inning scoreless streak for Moravian sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy dating
back to April 9th. The Pioneers extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning on
a two-out, two-RBI single to center field by sophomore catcher Mindy Coxe, which scored a pair
of unearned runs. William Patterson added a run in the top of the seventh inning on back-to-back
doubles to left centerfield by Alicia Albert and Sisca. The Pioneers finished the game with
eight hits including two by Sisca. Moravian finished the game with four hits including two
off the bat of senior outfielder Jessica Esposito. Sophomore Jenn Scott improved to 21-8 in
the circle for the Pioneers with her second win of the day. The shutout was Scott’s 12th
of the season and the first time Moravian has been shutout in 32 games this season. It is also
the first time Moravian has been shutout in 52 games, dating back to April 13, 2003, a 1-0
loss to Juniata College. Scott scattered four hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Hennessy suffered her first loss of the season on the mound, allowing four runs, just two earned,
on eight hits, a walk and a hit batter with six strikeouts. Hennessy is now 15-1 overall.

doubleheader. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior
shortstop Heather Bortz doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by senior
third baseman Janelle Brey. Bortz had two of Moravian’s six hits in the game. The game
remained scoreless until the sixth inning when the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead on a two-run home
run to left field by freshman designated player Liz Sisca, her sixth homer of the year. Freshman
shortstop Alicia Albert had two of William Paterson’s six hits in the game. The Greyhounds
would tie the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when sophomore designated player
Richelle McWilliams hit a solo home run to left centerfield, her fourth dinger of the year.
The teams would use the international tiebreaker of placing a runner on second base to start
an inning beginning with the eighth inning. William Paterson was able to score on a Moravian
error for a 3-2 lead. The Greyhounds were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth, ending
their 29-game winning streak. Sophomore Jenn Scott earned the victory for the Pioneers, allowing
two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three batters. Moravian senior Donna Weiner
allowed just two runs on six hits and a walk. Weiner had four strikeouts and is not charged
with the run that scored on the international tiebreaker or the loss in the game.

The top-ranked Greyhounds swept their tenth consecutive doubleheader and extended their winning
streak to 29 straight victories with a 6-5 win over Lebanon Valley College in the second game
of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first
inning when junior shortstop Heather Bortz singled to third base to lead off the inning, and
she advanced to second base when the ball rolled out of play. After moving to third on a ground
out by freshman second baseman LeeAnna Roberts, Bortz scored on an RBI ground out by senior
third baseman Janelle Brey. The Greyhounds extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the
second inning when senior outfielder Jessica Esposito hit a sacrifice fly to score sophomore
designated player Richelle McWilliams, who had reached on an error to start the inning. Moravian
would add four runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 6-0 lead. After Bortz and Roberts
singled to lead off the inning, Brey connected on a three-run home run down the left field
line, her seventh home run of the season. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka followed with a
single and would eventually score on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Kira Weller. The Flying
Dutchmen cut Moravian's lead to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Lebanon
Valley then pulled within a run at 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning with three runs. The
Flying Dutchmen actually had the bases loaded at the end of the fifth inning and had a total
of nine runners left on base in the game but were unable to score any more runs. Moravian had
eight hits in the game with Bortz collecting three hits and Weller adding two hits. Soroka
also had three at-bats in the contest, giving her 510 in her career, surpassing the only Moravian
record of 508. Senior Donna Weiner improved to 12-1 on the mound with her 12th consecutive
win, despite allowing five runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Weiner also had two strikeouts.
Freshman pitcher Becky Thomas tossed 1/3 of an inning with a walk for the Greyhounds before
sophomore Meagan Hennessy came in to close the door for her third save of the season. Hennessy
allowed two hits and a walk while striking out a batter. She extended her scoreless inning
streak to 30 with the relief appearance.

doubleheader. The win also clinched the top seed in the 2004 Commonwealth Conference Tournament
for the Greyhounds. Hennessy scattered two hits and a walk while striking out three batters.
She is undefeated on the season at 15-0 and lowered her ERA to 0.53 while extending her scoreless
inning streak to 28 innings. Moravian would give Hennessy all the offense she would need in
the bottom of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz, who had he NCAA record 44-game
hitting streak snapped in the Greyhounds' last contest, singled to left field and stole second
base. Bortz moved to third on an infield single by senior outfielder Melissa Soroka and scored
on an RBI single up the middle by sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams. Moravian
added a run in the third inning when Bortz again led off the inning with a single. She moved
to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Soroka. In the fifth inning, senior
third baseman Janelle Brey singled with one out and moved to third on a double by Soroka. Brey
scored on a grounder by McWilliams as Lebanon Valley attempted to throw Brey out at the plate.
The Greyhounds had ten hits in the game with Bortz and Soroka each collecting three hits while
McWilliams added two hits.

Conference doubleheader. The Greyhounds, the number one team in the nation in the latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll, need to win just one of their four
remaining Commonwealth Conference games to clinch the top seed in the conference tournament
that begins on April 30th at Lebanon Valley College. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead bottom
of the first inning when senior second baseman Megan Smith scored on an error. Susquehanna
would score three times in the top of the second inning, including a pair of unearned runs,
to take a 3-1 lead. The Greyhounds tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a two-RBI
double by sophomore first baseman Richelle McWilliams that scored senior third baseman Janelle
Brey and senior outfielder Melissa Soroka. McWilliams also had the game-winning hit, a two-RBI
double in the fifth inning that again scored Brey and Soroka for the 5-3 victory. Moravian
had 11 hits in the game with two each by Smith, Brey, Soroka, McWilliams, sophomore catcher
Kira Weller and junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi. However, for the first time since the first
game of a doubleheader at Messiah College on April 15, 2003, junior shortstop Heather Bortz
was held without a hit, snapping her NCAA All-Division record hitting streak at 44 games. Senior
pitcher Donna Weiner won her 11th straight decision in the circle for the Greyhounds, improving
to 11-1 on the season. Weiner allowed three runs, just one was earned, on three hits and five
walks while striking out two batters.

has qualified for the Commonwealth Conference Tournament for the fourth straight season. Sophomore
pitcher Meagan Hennessy tossed her third shutout in three days in the game, allowing just one
hit and two walks while striking out six batters. Hennessy remains undefeated on the season
at 14-0 and has tied the single season school record with eight shutouts this season. Hennessy
received all the offense she would need in the bottom of the second inning when Bortz ripped
a double to left centerfield to drive in freshman first baseman Lauren Homa and junior outfielder
Krissy Cianfichi. The Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo

The win was also the 51st of Weiner's career, moving her into sole possession of second place
in the Greyhound record books. Moravian gave Weiner all the offense she needed with a run in
the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz scored the winning run on a sacrifice
fly by sophomore first baseman Richelle McWilliams. Moravian would score five times in the
top of the second inning with senior second baseman Megan Smith driving in a run with a bases
loaded walk before senior third baseman Janelle Brey connected on a grand slam, her fifth homer
of the season and her third grand slam of the year. The Greyhounds added a run in the top of

During the streak, Bortz is 69 of 135 (.511 average) with 23 multiple hit games while Moravian

At Albright College - Won 5-1 Boxscore
Moravian, the top ranked team in the nation, ran its school record winning streak to 18 games
with a 5-1 victory over Albright College in the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather
Bortz led of the game with a triple, extending her school record hitting streak to 36 games
to tie the NCAA Division III record for a career hitting streak. Bortz scored on a sacrifice
fly to center field by senior third baseman Janelle Brey. Senior outfielder Melissa Soroka
followed with a home run to finish the inning. After allowing a home run to the Lions in the
third inning, Moravian added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore Richelle
McWilliams hit a pinch-hit RBI-double to score Soroka, who had also doubled, and freshman catcher
Danielle Carrione delivered an RBI single to score senior Megan Smith, who had pinch run for
McWilliams. Moravian finished off the scoring with a single run in the top of the seventh inning
when Bortz scored on a passed ball. Moravian had eight hits in the game with Soroka collecting
two of them. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy remained undefeated in the circle this season, improving
to 10-0. She allowed just one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters
to raise her season strikeout total to 77 in 73 innings.

games with a 2-0 victory versus Messiah College in the second game of a Commonwealth Conference
doubleheader to sweep the Falcons. Moravian hasn't lost since a 3-2 loss to #6 Christopher
Newport University in the opening game of the year. Against Messiah, senior pitcher Donna Weiner
scattered two hits and a walk while striking out two batters to improve to 6-1 on the season
with her sixth straight win. Weiner received all the offense she would need in the bottom of
the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz singled to lead off the inning, which extended
her school-record hitting streak to 35 games, and scored on an infield single by senior outfielder
Melissa Soroka. The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Soroka doubled to left field to score junior Leah Holmes, who had entered the game as a pinch
runner for senior second baseman Megan Smith after Smith reached on an infield single. The
Greyhounds had five hits in the game with two by Soroka.

game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader. The winning streak surpasses the 15-game winning
streak put together by the 1995 Moravian squad. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy scattered
two hits and walked two more batters while striking out a school record 14 hitters to remain
undefeated on the season at 9-0. Hennessy got all the offense she would need in the bottom
of the third inning. Junior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi doubled to center field with two outs
and scored from second base on an infield single by junior shortstop Heather Bortz. The hit
by Bortz extended her school-record hitting streak to 34 games. Moravian would add a run in
the bottom of the fourth inning when senior designated player Jenn Hastings hit a sacrifice
fly to right field to score senior third baseman Janelle Brey, who had walked with one out.
The Greyhounds closed out the scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI
single by Brey, which scored Bortz, who had led off the inning with a single. Moravian had
five hits in the game with Bortz collecting two of them and a double by senior outfielder Melissa
Soroka.

The Greyhounds non-conference doubleheader at Haverford College has been postponed for a second
time, this time due to the Fords having to reschedule a Centennial Conference doubleheader
for Sunday. The twinbill has been rescheduled for Friday, April 16th beginning at 3:30 p.m.
at Haverford.
At Rowan (NJ) University - Postponed
Moravian, the top ranked team in the nation this week, has had its non-conference doubleheader
at 14th ranked Rowan (NJ) University postponed due to rain. The twinbill has not been rescheduled
at this time.
Vs. Wilkes University - Won 5-2 Boxscore
The Greyhounds tied the longest winning streak in school history with their 15th consecutive
win, earning a sweep of Wilkes University in a non-conference doubleheader by the final score
of 5-2. Moravian ties the 15-game winning streak put together by the 1995 squad. The Greyhounds
fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning before scoring four unearned runs in the bottom
half of the inning to take the lead for good. The only Moravian RBI in the inning was a sacrifice
fly by freshman outfielder Danielle Carrione. Wilkes cut the Greyhounds' lead to 4-2 in the
top of the fifth inning, but again Moravian responded with a runs in the bottom half of the
inning with senior outfielder Melissa Soroka scoring on a wild pitch. The Greyhounds had just
four hits in the game with two coming off the bat of junior shortstop Heather Bortz to extend
her school record hitting streak to 33 straight games. Senior Donna Weiner earned her fifth
consecutive win for the Greyhounds, allowing two runs on four hits and eight walks while striking
out six batters. Weiner now had 204 career strikeouts, the fifth Greyhound to reach 200 strikeouts
and fourth all-time.

the top of the second inning, however, the Greyhounds responded with three runs in the bottom
half of the inning to take the lead for good. Freshman catcher Danielle Carrione doubled with
one out and moved to third on a double by senior outfielder Jessica Esposito. Junior outfielder
Krissy Cianfichi followed with a two-RBI triple to tie the game. Cianfichi would score the
winning run on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Heather Bortz. Moravian added a single run
in the third inning on a Wilkes error that allowed senior outfielder Melissa Soroka to score.
The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice
fly by Soroka that scored senior third baseman Janelle Brey, who had led off the inning with
a double to give her 300 career total bases, the first player in Moravian history to reach
that total in a career. Moravian had nine hits in the game with Bortz collecting two hits to
extend her school record hitting streak to 32 games. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy remained perfect
on the mound for the Greyhounds, improving to 8-0 on the season. Hennessy allowed two runs
on four hits and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Franklin & Marshall College, earning a sweep of the Diplomats and extending Moravian's
winning streak to 13 games. The Greyhounds are now just two wins away from tying the longest
winning streak in school history, a 15-game streak back in 1995. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0
lead in the bottom of the second inning when senior third baseman Janelle Brey hit a bases
loaded single through the left side of the infield for an RBI, scoring sophomore catcher Kira
Weller, who had singled with one out. Moravian added another single run in the third inning
when Weller doubled to left centerfield, scoring sophomore designated player Richelle McWilliams,
who had singled to lead off the inning. The Greyhounds scored another run in the bottom of
the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Brey doubled to left field with two outs and scored on
an error by the Diplomats. Franklin & Marshall scored its only run of the day in the top
of the fifth inning to cut the Greyhounds' lead to 3-1. Moravian finished off the scoring with
three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brey connected on a two-run home run to center
field to score junior shortstop Heather Bortz, who led off the inning with a single. McWilliams
drove in the final run with an RBI double to right centerfield that scored senior outfielder
Melissa Soroka, who had singled. The run scored was the 100th of Soroka's career. Moravian
pounded out 13 hits in the game with Brey and McWilliams each collecting three hits. Bortz,
Soroka and Weller had two hits apiece with Bortz extending her school record hitting streak
to 31 games. Freshman pitcher Becky Thomas improved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing one run on
five hits and a walk while striking out two batters in five innings of work. Sophomore Meagan
Hennessy earned her second save of the season, tossing two perfect innings of relief with one
strikeout.

host Elizabethtown College, 9-2, in the second game of the twinbill. Moravian jumped out to
a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning an Elizabethtown error. The Greyhounds extended
their lead to 3-0 in the third when senior third baseman Janelle Brey scored on a single by
senior designated player Jenn Hastings. Moravian added three runs in the top of the sixth inning
on a two-RBI single by junior shortstop Heather Bortz and an RBI single by senior outfielder
Melissa Soroka. The Blue Jays would score their only runs of the day in the bottom of the sixth
inning. The Greyhounds would score three times in the top of the seventh inning with Bortz
driving in two runs with a doubles and junior second baseman Leah Holmes adding an RBI single.
Moravian had 14 hits in the game with Bortz, who singled to lead off the game to extend her
hitting streak to 29 games, collecting three hits. Brey, Soroka and freshman first baseman

hits and a walk while striking out three batters. Hennessy got all the offense she would need
in the top of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz led off the game with a single
to left field to extend her school record hitting streak to 28 games, and Bortz scored on an
RBI single by senior designated player Jenn Hastings. The Greyhounds would put four runs on
the board in the top of the second inning on a grand slam by senior third baseman Janelle Brey,
her third home run of the season. Brey would score again in the fourth inning on an RBI double
by senior outfielder Melissa Soroka. Moravian added two runs in the top of the sixth inning
to institute the NCAA’s eight-run mercy rule. Soroka hit a two-RBI triple to score Bortz
and senior pinch runner Megan Smith. The Greyhounds had with two each by Bortz, Brey, Soroka
and freshman catcher Danielle Carrione. Senior outfielder Jessica Esposito picked up one hit

Vs. East Texas Baptist University in Gold Bracket Championship Game
at 2004 NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic - Won 7-3 Boxscore
The Greyhounds won the Gold Bracket Championship of the 2004 National Fastpitch Coaches Association
Division III Leadoff Classic with a 7-3 victory over previously undefeated East Texas Baptist
University in the title game. Moravian fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but the Greyhounds
responded with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead for good. Freshman
first baseman Lauren Homa drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field that
scored senior designated player Jenn Hastings, who had singled to lead off the inning. Junior
shortstop Heather Bortz singled up the middle to give Moravian a 2-1 lead and to extend her
hitting streak to 27 consecutive games. Junior second baseman Leah Holmes and senior third
baseman Janelle Brey also had RBI singles in the inning. The Tigers cut Moravian's lead to
4-2 in the top of the third inning but Moravian added a run in the bottom of the third on an
RBI single by freshman catcher Danielle Carrione to make the lead 5-2. East Texas Baptist would
score its final run of the game in the fourth inning to cut Moravian's advantage to 5-3. However,
the Greyhounds added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI double by senior
outfielder Melissa Soroka and an RBI single by Hastings to set the final at 7-3. Moravian had
14 hits in the game with Hastings going four-for-four and Carrione going three-for-three. Bortz
also had two hits in the game. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy earned the victory on the
mound to improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the tournament. Hennessy allowed three runs on seven
hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Hennessy was named the NFCA Division III
Leadoff Classic's Most Valuable Player while Brey and Hastings earned spots on the NFCA Leadoff
Classic All-Tournament Team.

around to score on an error. Moravian added a second run in the top of the seventh inning on
an RBI single up the middle by senior third baseman Janelle Brey that scored freshman first
baseman Lauren Homa, who had doubled to lead off the inning. Moravian had just four hits in
the game with Homa collecting two of them. Sophomore pitcher Meagan Hennessy remained undefeated
on the season at 5-0 with her third shutout of the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Hennessy scattered

in two runs with a single to center field. Freshman catcher Danielle Carrione had an RBI single
to right centerfield to close out the scoring. Methodist scored twice in the third inning and
once in the fourth to pull within 4-3. The Greyhounds responded in the bottom of the fourth
inning with four more runs. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz, who had extended her school-record
hitting streak to 25 games in the first inning, hit an RBI single to left field. Junior second
baseman Leah Holmes followed with another RBI single to left field before senior outfielder
Melissa Soroka drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI. Senior designated player Jenn Hastings
drove in the final run of the fourth inning with a single to left field. Moravian would score

later Saturday evening to play 12th-ranked Methodist (NC) College. Moravian scored the only
runs it would need in the third inning. Senior third baseman Janelle Brey hit an RBI double
to right centerfield to score junior second baseman Leah Holmes with the first run of the inning.
Moravian would add two more runs on a pair of Capital errors. The Greyhounds final run of the
game came in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore Richelle McWilliams hit a pinch hit
home run to left field. The Greyhounds had 14 hits in the game with Brey and Holmes each collecting
three hits. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz added two hits to extend her school-record hitting
streak to 24 straight games. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy improved to 4-0 on the season while

a 13-6 victory versus Roanoke (VA) College. Moravian fell behind, 5-0, in the top of the first
inning but responded with six runs on three hits and five errors in the bottom of the first
to take a 6-5 lead. Roanoke committed a total of nine errors in the game. Junior shortstop
Heather Bortz would extend her hitting streak to 23 games in the bottom of the first inning
with a single up the middle. Senior third baseman Janelle Brey had the only RBI of the inning
on a sacrifice fly to score Bortz. Brey led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo
home run to left field, her first of the season, to extend the Greyhounds’ lead to 7-5.
Moravian added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a grand slam to left field
by Brey. After allowing a run in the top of the fifth inning, the Greyhounds finished off the
scoring in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. Senior designated player Jenn Hastings hit

NFCA preseason poll. Senior first baseman/designated hitter Jenn Hastings drove in all three
of the Greyhounds' runs in the top of the first inning with a double. The hit by Hastings was
her first of the season and the 100th of her career at Moravian. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz
had three hits to extend her hitting streak to 22 games while senior third baseman Janelle
Brey added two hits. Hennessy had three strikeouts and a walk to go with her two-hitter.

Moravian began the second day of the Atlantic versus East Challenge hosted by Virginia Wesleyan
College with a 4-2 victory versus Huntingdon (AL) College. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0
lead in the top of the fourth inning when sophomore first baseman Richelle McWilliams hit an
RBI groundout to score senior outfielder Melissa Soroka, who had singled. Moravian added three
runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 advantage. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz
hit a one-out single to extend her hitting streak to 20 games. Bortz stole second base and
scored on an RBI single to right field by junior second baseman Leah Holmes. Holmes moved to
second on a single by senior third baseman Janelle Brey, and Holmes scored on an RBI single
to left field by Soroka. Brey would score on a passed ball. Huntingdon would push two runs
across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Greyhounds collected ten hits in the
game with Soroka collecting three of them. Brey and Holmes each had two hits. Freshman Becky
Thomas tossed the first four innings of the game for her first collegiate victory. Thomas allowed
four hits and a walk while striking out two batters. Senior Donna Weiner pitched two innings
and allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three batters. Sophomore hurler
Meagan Hennessy tossed the final inning, striking out two batters for the save.

The Greyhounds earned their first victory of the season with three runs in the top of the
eighth inning to defeat Mary Washington (VA) College at the Atlantic versus East Challenge
hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first
inning as senior outfielder Melissa Soroka and junior second baseman Leah Holmes scored on
an error. The Greyhounds added a run in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead 3-0 when senior
third baseman Janelle Brey doubled to left centerfield to score junior shortstop Heather Bortz,
who had singled and stolen second base. Moravian would allow Mary Washington to score three
unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings.
The teams began the eighth inning with the international tiebreaker, which placed Holmes on
second base to start the Greyhounds' half of inning. Brey doubled to left centerfield to score
Holmes. Soroka followed with a triple to left field that scored Brey, and Soroka crossed the
plate on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by senior designated hitter Jenn Hastings. Brey finished
the game three-for-four while Bortz, who extended her school record hitting streak to 19 straight
games, picked up a pair of hits. Sophomore Meagan Hennessy earned the victory on the mound
for Moravian, allowing three unearned runs on four hits and three walks. Hennessy, who had
a no-hitter through the first 6 1/3 innings, had a school record 12 strikeouts in the game,
her seventh career double digit strikeout game in 24 career contests.

Moravian opened its 2004 season with a 3-2 loss to undefeated Christopher Newport (VA) University
at the Atlantic versus East Challenge hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. The Greyhounds jumped
out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior shortstop Heather Bortz hit a one-out
single to right field to extended her hitting streak to 18 games dating back to last season
and breaking the Moravian record. Bortz then stole second base before moving to third base
on a double to left centerfield by senior third baseman Janelle Brey. Bortz and Brey would
pull off a double steal with Bortz scoring on the play. Brey would score on an error. The Captains
would get three runs in the top of the sixth inning on a pair of hits, a pair of walks, a sacrifice
fly and one of three Moravian errors in the game. The Greyhounds had five hits in the contest
with Bortz collecting two hits in three at-bats. Bortz also had a pair of stolen bases. Senior
Donna Weiner suffered the loss in the circle for Moravian, allowing three runs, two of them
earned on three hits and six walks. Weiner, who had a no-hitter through the first five innings,
had four strikeouts in the contest.
