Moravian, the second seed, was knocked out of the 2005 NCAA Division III Regionals with a 6-2 loss to top seeded and host Salisbury (MD) University in the championship game. The Sea Gulls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back two-out doubles by Erin Ruest and Leslie White. The Greyhounds tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Freshman third baseman Kelly Santry led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, senior shortstop Heather Bortz singled to center field to score Santry. Salisbury retook the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run by White that was down the left field line just inside the foul pole. Moravian scored another run in the top of the fourth inning but left the bases loaded. Freshman second baseman Beth Paly doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by Santry to cut Salisbury's lead to 4-2. Salisbury would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by White and a sacrifice fly by Nichole Fuqua. The Greyhounds had five hits in the game with two by Santry. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy suffered the loss to end the season at 29-6 in the circle. She allowed six runs, just three of them earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Hennessy finished the year with a school record 29 wins, 250 innings pitched and 277 strikeouts. The second seeded Greyhounds advanced to the championship round of the NCAA Regionals for the third straight year, with a 5-0 victory over third seeded Roanoke (VA) College in the final elimination game of the 2005 NCAA Regionals at Salisbury (MD) University. Moravian will play top seed and host Salisbury on Sunday with the Greyhounds needing to win twice to earn a return trip to the NCAA Division III World Series. Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Senior shortstop Heather Bortz and senior outfielder Leah Holmes led off with back-to-back singles, and sophomore outfielder Justina Black drew a one out walk to load the bases. Junior designated player Richelle McWilliams grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to score Bortz, and an error on a ground ball hit by sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa allowed Holmes to score. The Greyhounds added another run in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 3-0. Black reached on a Roanoke error with two outs, and McWilliams followed with a double off the fence in left centerfield, which was just inches from clearing the eight-foot fence, to score Black. The Greyhounds scored twice more in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead. Black singled with two outs before McWilliams connected on a two-run home run down the left field line. The homer was McWilliams' tenth of the season, tying the single season school record set by Janelle Brey in 2002. Moravian finished the game with seven hits including two by McWilliams. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy tossed her 18th shutout of the season, scattering five hits to go with three strikeouts. Hennessy is now 29-5 on the year with school records of 29 wins, 18 shutouts, 244 innings pitched and 275 strikeouts.

Moravian continued to advance back throught the loser's bracket of the 2005 NCAA Division III Regional hosted by Salisbury (MD) University wit a 6-3 victory over fourth seeded Ferrum (VA) College in an elimination game. The second seeded Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run to left field by freshman third baseman Kelly Santry. The homer was Santry's third of the season. Ferrum tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Jenny Perdue that hit off the left field foul pole. The Panthers would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning in a lead off double by Wendy Hunt and an RBI single by Mary Greenway. The Greyhounds scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-2 lead. Sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa drew a one out walk. After another out, sophomore catcher Danielle Carrione hit a single and junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy followed with an RBI single to score Homa. Senior shortstop Heather Bortz drew another walk to load the bases before an error on a ball hit by senior outfielder Leah Holmes allowed Carrione to score. Freshman second baseman Beth Paly followed with a single to left field that drove in Hennessy, Bortz and Holmes. Ferrum would score a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 6-3 on a bases loaded walk by Kryestyn Matherly. Moravian had eight hits in the game with two each by Paly and Hennessy. In the circle, Hennessy improved to 28-5 on the season, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. The seven strikeouts pushed her career total over the 600 mark to 604.

Freshman outfielder Keri Traficante reached on an error, and an error on a ball hit by freshman catcher Beth Paly allowed Bortz to score. The Greyhounds added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Bortz led off with a double and scored on an RBI double by Paly. McWilliams added another RBI sacrifice fly to score Paly. The Greyhounds had 13 hits in the game with Black and Homa each collecting three hits and Bortz adding two hits to raise her school record career total to 250. Freshman pitcher Megan Ritchey improved to 7-1 in the circle with the victory. Ritchey allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out five batters in her first collegiate postseason appearance.

The Greyhounds will now play fifth seeded Mary Baldwin (VA) College in the tournament's first elimination game. Roanoke took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with back-to-back hits to lead off the inning followed by a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. The Greyhounds tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior shortstop Heather Bortz drew a walk to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior outfielder Leah Holmes with an error to allow to both Holmes and Bortz to be safe, and a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman Beth Paly laid down another sacrifice bunt to move Bortz to third. Sophomore outfielder Justina Black had an infield single to score Bortz. Moravian had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning but sophomore catcher Danielle Carrione was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning. The Maroons scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning on a double, an intentional walk and a single down the left field line. Moravian was limited to just five hits in the game with three by Bortz. During the game, Bortz had two assists in the field to become just the second player in school history with 300 career assists. Carrione had nine putouts to give her a school record 285 this season. Moravian earned its fifth straight Commonwealth Conference Tournament Championship with a 6-0 victory over fourth seeded Albright College at Susquehanna University's Sassafras Field. The Greyhounds, the top seed in the tournament, win their sixth consecutive Commonwealth Conference Championship and have earned their eighth straight berth in the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament that begins next weekend. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore Becky DeJulio led off with a pinch hit single to right field, and she made it all the way to third base on an error in the outfield. Sophomore outfielder LeeAnna Roberts reentered the game to run and she scored on a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Heather Bortz. Moravian added five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore catcher/second baseman Beth Paly led off with a single, and sophomore outfielder Justina Black followed with a walk. After a wild pitch, junior designated player Richelle McWilliams was intentionally walked to lead the bases. After a fly out, freshman third baseman Kelly Santry drew a walk to push Paly across the plate. Freshman Keri Traficante drew another walk to push senior pinch runner Stephanie Eddinger across the plate. Senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi, who ran for McWilliams, scored on a wild pitch before Bortz hit a two-RBI single to score Santry and Traficante. Moravian had just five hits in the game with two by Paly. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy tossed her 17th shutout of the season and third of the tournament, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters. Hennessy was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after allowing just ten hits and a walk while striking out 22 batters in 21 shutout innings of work. Hennessy is now 27-4 on the season with a school record 256 strikeouts. She raised her school career records to 65 wins, 36 shutouts, 588 strikeouts and 556 innings pitched.

The top seeded Hounds are now one victory away from their eight straight trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. Moravian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Senior shortstop Heather Bortz drew a walk to lead off the inning, and she scored on a two-out RBI double by sophomore outfielder Justina Black. The Greyhounds added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 3-0 lead. Bortz led off the inning with single and scored on another RBI double by Black. The win gave Moravian its 12th doubleheader sweep of the season, and the program's first-ever undefeated home season at 16-0. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI triple by freshman pitcher Megan Ritchey that scored sophomore outfielder Justina Black, who had walked to lead off the inning. Senior shortstop Heather Bortz followed with an RBI single to score Ritchey. Moravian extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Bortz to score Ritchey again, who had singled with two outs. Widener would get a run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-1. The Greyhounds finished the game with eight hits including two each by Bortz, Ritchey and freshman catcher Beth Paly. Ritchey improved to 6-1 in the circle, allowing a run on six hits and a walk in four-plus innings of action. Ritchey also struck out one batter. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy came on in the top of the fifth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. She was able to retire the next three batters and worked two more scoreless innings for her third save of the season. Moravian's non-conference doubleheader versus Dickinson College for Sunday, April 24th has been cancelled due to Moravian needing to make-up a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader and Dickinson needing to play a Centennial Conference doubleheader. The twinbill will not be rescheduled this season.

The Greyhounds saw their losing streak hit three straight games after dropping the second game of a non-conference doubleheader at William Paterson (NJ) University, 5-4. The twinbill featured two of the top 25 teams in the nation accorind to the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll with the Greyhounds ranked ninth and the Pioneers ranked 23rd. The three-game losing streak is Moravian's longest since a four-game losing streak back in April of 2001. William Paterson scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a 5-0 lead. Moravian started a rally in the top of the seventh inning and scored four times and had the tying run at second base when the game ended. Junior designated player Richelle McWilliams started the inning with a single and sophomore outfielder Justina Black followed with another single. Sophomore Becky DeJulio came on to pinch hit and singled to load the bases. Freshman outfielder Keri Traficante reached on an error that allowed McWilliams and Black to score. Freshman pitcher Meagan Ritchey hit and RBI single to score sophomore LeeAnna Roberts, who had pinch run for DeJulio, before Traficante scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher Beth Paly. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when junior designated player Richelle McWilliams connected on a solo home run to left-center field, her third home run of the season and the eighth of her Moravian career. Moravian would push four runs across the plate in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa drove in a pair of runs with a two-RBI double that scored senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi and senior shortstop Heather Bortz. McWilliams would add a two-RBI double in the inning as well, scoring Homa and sophomore catcher Danielle Carrione. The Greyhounds added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to institute the NCAA's eight-run rule. Bortz scored the first run off the inning on an error before Homa hit a three-run home run, her first homer of the season, to score Carrione and freshman second baseman Beth Paly. Moravian had seven hits in the game with Bortz, Homa and McWilliams each having two hits. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy improved to 8-2 in the circle with her fifth shutout and fourth one-hitter of the season. The shut out was Hennessy's 24th of her career, breaking Amy Croll's record of 23 set from 1994 to 1997. The Greyhounds completed the non-conference doubleheader sweep of rival Muhlenberg College with a 6-2 victory in the second game at Blue & Grey Field. Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI triple by sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa that scored senior shortstop Heather Bortz and freshman outfielder Beth Paly. Homa would cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by junior designated player Richelle McWilliams. The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 4-0 in the second inning with Bortz hit an RBI single to score sophomore outfielder LeeAnna Roberts. Moravian added another run in the third inning for a 5-0 lead when Roberts had an RBI single to score Homa. The Mules scored their first run of the doubleheader in the top of the fourth inning. The Greyhounds responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning when an RBI ground out by senior second baseman Leah Holmes scored senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi. Muhlenberg would get an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning to finish off the scoring. Moravian had nine hits in the game with Bortz going three-for-four and Homa and Roberts each collecting two hits. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy earned her second win of the day and her seventh of the season in the circle for Moravian. Junior All-American pitcher Meagan Hennessy tossed her second career no-hitter to defeat rival Muhlenberg College, 8-0 in five innings, in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field. Hennessy, who faced two batters over the minimum, struck out eight batters and allowed just two batters to reach base on errors in the first two innings. The shutout was the 23rd of Hennessy's career tying Amy Croll's school record set from 1994 to 1997. Hennessy would get all the offense she would need in the bottom of the second inning when junior designated player Richelle McWilliams hit a two-run home run to center field that scored sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa, who had reached on an error. The homer was McWilliam's second of the season and her seventh career home run. Moravian extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Homa hit an RBI single to score senior shortstop Heather Bortz. The Greyhounds would push five runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to institute the NCAA's eight-run rule. Senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi had an RBI single to score freshman pinch runner Megan Ritchey before Bortz tripled to right center field to empty the bases with three RBIs. The Fords scored their only run of the game in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Moravian tied the contest in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore outfielder Beth Paly led off the inning with a single and came around to score on an infield single by senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi. The Greyhounds eventually took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore third baseman LeeAnna Roberts led off the stanza with a solo home run to right field, her first collegiate homer. Moravian was limited to three hits in the game with one each by Paly, Cianfichi and Roberts. Freshman pitcher Megan Ritchey improved to 3-0 in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out three batters in her home debut.

The Greyhounds closed out their trip to the Salisbury Seagulll Invitational with a 3-1, nine-inning loss to host Salisbury (MD) University. The game was a battle between the two teams tied for second in the nation in the 2005 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Preseason Top 25 Poll. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Moravian. The game was scoreless after the regulation seven innings, so the two schools began the international tiebreaker rule of starting an inning with a runner on second base in the eighth inning. Neither team was able to push around a run in the eighth inning. Moravian began the top of the ninth inning with sophomore outfielder/second baseman LeeAnna Roberts on second base. Roberts was moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore catcher Danielle Carrione. After a strikeout, Roberts scored when sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa reached on an error. Salisbury would have runners at first and third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning when Tee Dronenburg hit a three-run home run to end the game. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles by senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi and sophomore outfielder LeeAnna Roberts that scored sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa and senior designated player Leah Holmes. During the second inning, Moravian senior shortstop Heather Bortz reached on a bunt single, the 200th hit of her Moravian career. Bortz becomes the first Greyhound to reach 200 hits in a career. Moravian extended its lead to 5-0 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Justina Black drove in Cianfichi with an RBI ground out while freshman second baseman Beth Paly had a two-RBI single to score Bortz and sophomore catcher Danielle Carrione. It was also the second time in a week that the team's played with Moravian avenging a 1-0 loss to the Captains last Sunday. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore first baseman Lauren Homa led off the inning with a single and would later score from second base on an error by Christopher Newport on a ball hit by senior outfielder Krissy Cianfichi. The Captains tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Moravian would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run to left field by sophomore outfielder Justina Black, her first career homer for the Greyhounds. Moravian had nine hits in the game led by three from senior shortstop Heather Bortz, giving her 199 hits for her career. Homa and sophomore third baseman/outfielder LeeAnna Roberts each had two hits in the game. Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy picked up her third win of the season in the circle while breaking Amy Croll's career strikeout record. Hennessy allowed an earned run on three hits while walking three batters. Hennessy had a total of 11 strikeouts in the game with her eighth of the contest, which came in the sixth inning, gave Hennessy 375 career strikeouts for the Greyhounds, surpassing Croll's previous record of 374 set from 1994 until 1997.
