SUSQUEHANNA WALKS OFF WITH A 3-2 WIN OVER JUNIATA IN TO REACH CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
OF 2009 LANDMARK CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

            BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior first baseman Laurie Blaszka (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) hit a walk-off RBI single to lift the second seeded Susquehanna University softball team to a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over third seed Juniata College Saturday afternoon in the final elimination game of the 2009 Landmark Conference Softball Tournament being hosted by Moravian College at Blue & Grey Field.
            The Crusaders advance to play the top seeded Greyhounds in the tournament championship on Sunday, May 3rd at 12:00 p.m. with the if necessary game to follow is Susquehanna wins the first game of the day.
            Juniata jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Junior outfielder Sarah Eckard (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg HS) led off with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior shortstop Stacy Nagy (Millerton, PA/Troy HS).  Senior third baseman Tara Carl (Duke Center, PA/Ott-Eldred HS) followed with an RBI infield single the bounced to the outfield grass and allowed Eckard to score.  After a wild pitch and an out, sophomore first baseman Melissa Moffat (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside HS) hit an RBI single to score Carl
            Susquehanna responded with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning to tie the game.  Freshman outfielder Lisa Finizio (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) led off with an infield bunt single while sophomore designated hitter Brennan Belfour (Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth HS) followed with sacrifice bunt but Finizio was doubled off of second base after rounding the base too far.  Senior outfielder Gretchen Halsey (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS) drew a walk, and Blaszka followed with a two-run homer to left field, her fifth homer of the season.
            The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning.  Balfour singled to lead off the inning and Halsey put down a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position.  Blaszka hit an RBI single up the middle to chase Balfour home with the winning run.  The Crusaders had left the bases loaded in both the second and fifth innings while Juniata had a runner thrown out at the plate to end the top of the second inning.
            Both teams collected eight hits in the game.  Blaszka was two-for-four with three RBIs for the Crusaders while Carl was two-for-three for Juniata.
            Sophomore pitcher Bryn Whitmire (Lederach, PA/Souderton HS) earned the victory in the circle for Susquehanna, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.  Junior Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg HS) suffered the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out six batters.
