THREE NAMED MORAVIAN ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior J.D. Rhinehart (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional HS) from
the football team, junior Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) of the womens
cross country team and freshman Kim Zipf (Wyomissing/Holy Name HS) from the womens
volleyball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for
their performances last week.
Rhinehart led the Greyhounds to a 19-10 season opening win at Delaware Valley College
and was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Football Honor Roll for his performance.
Rhinehart had 12 tackles, seven of them solo, three tackles for loss, one and a half sacks
and one forced fumble. The greyhounds open their 2000 home season this Saturday against
Albright College at 1:00 p.m.
Shertzer won her second straight race of the season and led the cross country team to
its second consecutive team championship of the year. Shertzer won the 6,000-meter Lafayette
Invitational in a time of 21:40. Moravian won the team title with 40 points, edging NCAA
Division I University of Pennsylvania by five points. The Greyhounds defeated six Division
I and three Division II schools in the meet.
Zipf led the womens volleyball team to a 4-1 record last week including a 3-1 mark
at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic where she was named to the All-Tournament Team for
her performance. Zipf had 61 kills, a .341 hitting percentage (61-18-126) and 38 digs in
16 games last week. She also had a career high 21 kills in 3-1 win over Salisbury State
University in the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic.
