MORAVIAN TO INDUCT SIX INTO ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
DAVID CALVO NAMED HERBSTMAN AWARD WINNER

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Mark Braun (Huntsville, AL), Jeffrey N. Cullingford (The Woodlands, TX), Neil Fromm (Irasburg, VT), Jane M. Tatum Helstrom (East Windsor, NJ), William Kraus (Allentown) and Scott A. Stanilious (Bedminster, NJ) make up the class of 2000 that will be inducted into the Moravian College Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 20th.

Also being honored at the 2000 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be David Calvo (Bethlehem) posthumously with the Robert Martin Herbstman Award and the 1960 baseball team.

Braun graduated from Moravian in 1984 and lettered for four seasons in soccer. He was a Middle Atlantic Conference first Team All-Star as a junior and a senior.  Braun was also named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional All-American in 1982 & 1983.  As a junior in 1982, he was honored as the MAC Southern Division Most Valuable Player and he helped the Greyhounds to their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.  Braun also led Moravian to the MAC Championship in 1983 and he was honored as Moravian's Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete in 1984.  He currently works for MEVATEC Corporation.

Cullingford, who graduated in 1990, was a member of the men's cross country and track and field teams for four years at Moravian.  He won a pair of NCAA Division III National Championships in the 800 meters during his senior season, one indoors and one outdoors.  Cullingford was a four-time NCAA Division III All-American, three times in the 800 meters and once in the 4x400-meter relay.  During his career at Moravian, he won ten Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships and another five titles outdoors.  Cullingford set eight Moravian records of which still stand today.  He is currently employed by Air Liquide America.

Fromm, a 1990 graduate, won four letters with the men's basketball team.  He was a National Association of Basketball Coaches All-American as a junior and a senior and he was also on the Middle Atlantic Conference Southwest All-Star First Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star Team, and the Moravian team MVP the same two years.  As a senior, Fromm was the MAC Southwest Most Valuable Player.  He set the school records career field goal percentage (55.9) and games started (101) and finished his career with 1,271 points and 817 rebounds.  Fromm was Moravian's Co-Most Outstanding Senior Male Athlete in 1990.  He currently resides in Irasburg, Vermont where he is a land owner/farmer.

Helstrom competed on the women's volleyball and women's basketball teams for four years at Moravian and graduated in 1990.  She was a Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star on the volleyball team as a sophomore, junior and senior and the Lehigh Valley Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Association Player of the Year as a senior.  Helstrom was also the team captain and team Most Valuable Player her final two years.  On the basketball court, Helstrom was the team MVP, a MAC All-Star and a Kodak All-District Player her senior season, the year Moravian made its second NCAA Tournament appearance.  She also helped the Greyhounds to a MAC Southern Championship and a Eastern College Athletic Conference title as a freshman.  Helstrom, who was a 1,000-point scorer with 1,022 points in her career, earned the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Award in 1990 as well as the Moravian Most Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award.

Kraus played basketball and baseball for four years at Moravian and one year of football around World War II before graduating in 1947.  He started at Moravian in 1939 and returned to school in 1945.  In his first two basketball campaigns, Kraus scored 494 points.  During his sophomore year of 1940-41, Kraus was named to the Basketball All-State Fifth Team and was the President of the Moravian Athletic Association.  In his senior season, he was the basketball team captain.  Kraus has retired from the Champion International Corporation.

Stanilious, a 1989 graduate, was a member of the Greyhound football team for four years and served as a team captain his senior season.  Stanilious, the school record holder for career tackles with 492 and career interceptions with 27, was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 1987 and made two All-American teams as a senior, the Pizza Hut Third Team and the Football Gazette Second Team.  He was a Middle Atlantic Conference First Team All-Star as a junior and as a senior and Stanilious was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star First Team the same years.  He was Moravian's Team Most Valuable Player in 1987 and helped the Greyhounds win the MAC Championship in 1988 and make the school's first-ever NCAA playoff appearance the same season.  Stanilious currently works as a salesman for Diebold, Inc. and an assistant football coach for the Greyhounds.

Calvo, who graduated in 1976, lettered for two seasons on the Moravian football team under the direction of his uncle and Moravian Hall of Fame member Rocco Calvo.  He played as a nose-guard for the Greyhounds.  Calvo was a founding member of the Moravian Blue & Grey Club and served as its vice-president from 1986 to 1992.  He also received the Medallion of Merit in June of 1991 for outstanding service to Moravian and the Alumni Association.  Calvo, who passed away last February, served as the President of Professional Services Group for eight years.  His award will be accepted by his wife Karen Garrison Calvo (Class of 1978) and his two children Crisann and Michael.

The 1960 baseball team posted an overall record of 12-4 and won the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship with a 4-3 win over the University of Delaware.
