THREE GREYHOUNDS EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT ACCOLADES
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Juniors Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS), Emily Shertzer
(Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) and Scott Heydt (Boyertown/ Boyertown HS) have
been named to the Verizon/CoSIDA College Division Academic All-District Fall/Winter At-Large
Teams, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wolfsberger
was a first team selection while Shertzer and Heydt were second team honorees.
Wolfsberger is now on the ballot for the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All- American Fall/Winter
Women's At-Large Team, which is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, April 17th. The
Fall/Winter At-Large program represents athletes competing in cross country, fencing, field
hockey, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, soccer, swimming, water polo and wrestling.
College Division District II consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities
in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-American program, a student-athlete must
be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant
reserve on his or her team.
Wolfsberger led the Greyhounds to a fifth place finish in the 2000 NCAA Division III Cross
Country Championships with a runner-up finish in the race. She won the MAC Championship
race the past two years and has helped Moravian extend its MAC Championship streak to eight
straight. Wolfsberger is currently a six-time All-American, twice in cross country
and four times in track & field. She won the 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field
National Championship in the 1,500 meters and has placed second in the nation twice in
the same event. Wolfsberger has won a total of 14 MAC Individual Championships (12
in track & field). Wolfsberger, who has won six career cross country meets, is
a five-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
Shertzer has also been a big contributor to the Greyhound cross country program, placing
26th at the National Championships to earn All-American honors. Shertzer won three
meets during the season and placed second to Wolfsberger in three others. She has
won four career meets and been on the All-MAC and All-Mideast Region All-Star teams the
last three years with Wolfsberger. Shertzer has won nine MAC Individual Championships
in track & field and was an All-American at the 2000 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track
Championships in the 10,000 meters.
Heydt helped the Moravian men's soccer team return to the MAC playoffs for the first time
since 1994. Heydt scored four goals and two assists for the Greyhounds, who were
9-11 this past fall. He is a three-year letterwinner and a two-time MAC All-Academic
Honoree.
