FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Senior Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) from the women's cross country
team, sophomore Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) of the women's
volleyball team, junior Charlie Bowden (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial HS) from
the football squad and freshman Patrick Grogan (Nazareth, PA/ Notre Dame HS) from
the men's cross country team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the
Week for their performances last week.
Jaick led the Moravian women's squad to its second straight win this season and a first
place finish at the 1st Annual Lehigh Valley Collegiate Championships hosted by Lehigh
University. Jaick won the 6,000-meter race (1,000 meters more than usual for Division
III) with a time of 21:56.7. The win was Jaick's first in college and was the best
time of her career on a 6,000-meter course. She won the race by six seconds over
Lucinda Hall from Lehigh. Jaick was one of five Moravian runners to place in the
top ten. There were 84 runners in the race. Moravian defeated NCAA Division
I Lehigh University by 20 points and Lafayette College by 29 points. The Greyhounds
also placed ahead of NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown
University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III DeSales University and Muhlenberg College.
Lawrence led the Greyhounds to a 5-1 record last week and a 4-1 record and a second place
finish at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic. Lawrence was one of two Moravian
players to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team for the second straight weekend. She
averaged 10.44 assists, 2.11 digs and 1.11 service aces while starting all 18 games. Lawrence
had 188 assists, 38 digs and 20 service aces in 18 games.
Bowden led the Greyhound offense in the team's season opening loss to King's College,
14-13. In his second year as the starting quarterback, Bowden completed 19 of 39
passes for 226 yards. He completed at least one pass to nine different receivers
in the game.
Grogan led the Moravian men's squad to a third place finish at the 1st Annual Lehigh Valley
Collegiate Championships hosted by Lehigh University. Grogan placed 11th of 78 runners
in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 27:14.3. Grogan was the top Moravian runner
and one of three Greyhounds to finish in the top 15. The only schools to defeat Moravian
were NCAA Division Lehigh University and Lafayette College. The Greyhounds placed
ahead of NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University
of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III DeSales University and Muhlenberg College.
