MORAVIAN WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RANKED 1ST IN NATION
BETHLEHEM, PA --- One week after defeating the defending national champion and top-ranked
preseason team on its home course, the Moravian College women's cross country team moved
up one spot to number one in the nation in this week's NCAA Division III Women's Cross
Country Poll released Wednesday.
The Greyhounds, who have won all three invitationals they have run in this season, defeating
Middlebury (VT) College last Saturday on the Panthers' home course. The 34-37 victory
and first place finish of eight schools for Moravian moved the Greyhounds from seven points
behind Middlebury to seven points ahead in the second poll of the season.
Moravian has placed four of its top five runners in the top ten of each race this season
and all five have been in the top 12 of each event. The four top finishers have all
been seniors led by Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS), who won the Kutztown
Invitational to open the season. Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) won
the Lehigh Valley Championship and has been second for the Greyhounds in the other two
races. The other seniors are Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and Erin
Boyle (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy HS). Moravian's other top finisher has
been freshman Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS).
The Greyhounds head to Van Cortlandt Park in New York City to run in the New York University
Invitational this Saturday, September 22nd.
