FIVE NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS) from the women's cross country team, junior Jenn Genevese (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS), sophomore Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) of the women's volleyball squad, senior Michael Abbate (South Plainfield, NJ/Bishop Ahr HS) from the football team and senior Evan Weller (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) of the men's soccer squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Wolfsberger won her second race of the season and led the #1 ranked Moravian women's team to its fourth invitational win of the year Saturday at the 3rd Annual New York University Invitational.  Wolfsberger completed the 5,000-meter course in Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx, NY) with a time of 18:19.76, winning by 11.18 seconds.  Moravian, which had three runners in the top ten, won the team title with a score of 63 points, eight ahead of The College of New Jersey, ranked 18th in the nation.  The Greyhounds are off until Saturday, October 6th when they will compete in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.

Genevese led the women's tennis team to a pair of victories last week with two wins in singles action and two wins in doubles play with senior Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin HS).  Moravian is currently 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth.  The team has won 14 straight matches and returns to action on Tuesday, September 25th in a home match with rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Lawrence, a setter, led the Greyhounds, who are ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, to a 3-1 record last week with two wins in Commonwealth Conference action and the loss coming to Division II Kutztown University.  Lawrence averaged 11.6 assists and 2.0 digs per game for the Greyhounds and had totals of 174 assists, 30 digs, 15 kills and six service aces in 15 games.  Moravian is 11-3 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, September 25th in a road match at Commonwealth Conference powerhouse Juniata College.

Abbate, a wide receiver, led the Greyhounds in a 44-26 loss to #5 Widener University in MAC action last Saturday.  Abbate grabbed six passes for 101 yards with a 39-yard touchdown reception.  He added five kickoff returns for 156 yards with a long of 57 yards and four punt returns for 20 yards.  Moravian is 0-2 on the season and will return home for the annual Family Day game on Saturday, September 29th versus Lebanon Valley College beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Weller, a midfielder, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1-1 record last week including a 4-1 victory over Juniata College to open the Commonwealth Conference season.  Weller had two goals and an assist in the win at Juniata.  Moravian is 3-1-2 on the season and will return to action with a Commonwealth Conference match at Albright College on Wednesday, September 26th beginning at 4:00 p.m.
