SHANNON & GONZALEZ NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE ALL-STARS
ANNVILLE, PA --- Moravian College sophomore midfielder Tim Shannon (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill
Valley HS) has been named to the Commonwealth Conference Men's Soccer All-Star First
Team announced Wednesday while junior forward Wilson Gonzalez (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty
HS) earned a spot on the All-Star Second Team.
Moravian finished the 2001 season with a 13-6-2 overall record, the team's best record
since the 1995 season. The Greyhounds earned their second straight Commonwealth Conference
Playoff appearance this year, falling to Elizabethtown College for the second straight
season in the semifinals, and the squad was given a berth in the 2001 Eastern College Athletic
Conference Mid-Atlantic Region Championships. Moravian was the fourth seed in the
six-team ECAC Tournament and made the semifinals with a thrilling 1-0, four-overtime victory
over Grove City College in the first round.
Shannon led the Greyhounds in scoring this season with 31 points on 14 goals and three
assists. He was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week once this season
when he led the Greyhounds on a torrid streak with eight goals and three assists in a five-match
winning streak in the middle of the year. Shannon, who is making his first appearance
on the Commonwealth All-Star Team, had four of the five game-winning goals during the winning
streak.
Gonzalez tallied seven goals and one assist for 15 points this season for Moravian. Gonzalez,
who saw action in all 21 matches for the Greyhounds, had four game-winning goals this year. The
Commonwealth is also honoring Gonzalez for the first time.
