ZIPF & LAWRENCE NAMED TO AVCA ALL-REGION TEAM
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO --- Sophomore outside hitter Kim Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name
HS) and sophomore setter Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) of
the Moravian College women's volleyball team have been named to the 2001 American Volleyball
Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team announced Wednesday by the AVCA.
The duo led the Greyhounds to a 25-9 record this season, the sixth straight 20-plus win
season by Moravian, the squad's sixth consecutive berth in the Commonwealth Conference
Championship match and the school's first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship
appearance where the top seeded Greyhounds reached the finals before losing.
Zipf led Moravian this fall with 4.12 kills per game and a .339 hitting percentage, which
both ranked in the top three of the Commonwealth Conference. Zipf had 445 total kills
with 428 digs, 36 service aces and 17 blocks for the Greyhounds. She will head into
her junior season, needing just 171 kills and 133 digs to become the fourth player in school
history to reach 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Zipf, who was named to
All-Tournament Teams at three tournaments this season, will be the third player to have
1,000 in each category.
Lawrence ran the Moravian offense with 10.53 assists per game. She had a total of
1,295 assists to go along with 366 digs, 94 kills, 66 service aces and 20 blocks. Lawrence
already has 2,249 assists and 125 service aces and has a chance to break the school record
in each category. Lawrence earned a spot on four All-Tournament Teams this season. She
and Zipf were also each named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week once this
year.
Juniata College, which won the 2001 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional led the way
with four players named to the AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team while Moravian was the
only other school with more that one honoree. The complete team can be found at www.avca.org
