FIVE NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Freshman Heather Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) of the softball team, freshman Chris Clancy (Kendall Park, NJ/Bishop Ahr HS) and junior Bob Frey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) from the baseball squad and juniors Dan Gorman (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley HS) and Todd Edwards (Conyngham, PA/Hazleton HS) of the men's tennis team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Bortz, a shortstop, led Moravian to a 2-2 mark at the Salisbury Sea Gull Invitational last weekend in Salisbury, Maryland.  Bortz had six hits during the tournament with two runs scored and two stolen bases.  She also had ten putouts and 11 assists with just one error in the field.  Moravian is currently 10-2 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, March 19th in a non-conference doubleheader with Muhlenberg College at Patriots Park in Allentown.

Clancy, a pitcher and outfielder, helped the Greyhounds to a 2-2 mark last week including a victory over rival Muhlenberg College.  Clancy tossed 7 2/3 innings in a 4-0 loss to Ursinus College.  He allowed four runs, three of them earned, four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.  At the plate, Clancy collected six hits in the four games with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double and he had six putouts and five assists in the field.  Moravian is 6-7 on the season and returns to action with a non-conference game at Haverford College on Wednesday.

Frey, the Greyhounds' starting first baseman, set the Moravian record for career homeruns with two homers in a 12-11, 11-inning victory at Muhlenberg.  Frey now has six homers on the season and 14 for his career at Moravian.  Frey completed the game with three hits in five at-bats, three runs scored and five RBIs.  For the week, Frey, who was pitched around, had six walks, 33 putouts and one assist.

Gorman and Edwards led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record last week on the hard courts with each player winning two singles matches and the duo combining for a pair of doubles wins.  Gorman is playing sixth singles while Edwards is competing at fourth singles.  The team is playing third doubles for Moravian.  The Greyhounds are currently 2-3 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, March 19th in a non-conference home match with Drew University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
