Wednesday, March 27, 2002 SCHERWIN NAMED ECAC DIVISION III FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CENTERVILLE, MA --- Sophomore Christina Scherwin (Denmark) of the Moravian College women's track and field team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last week. Scherwin threw the javelin for the first time in her Moravian career at the Quaker Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania last Sunday, finishing in first place with the best throw at the NCAA Division III level this season and the 13th best throw of 2002 in the world. Scherwin's toss of 55.99 meters, automatically qualified her for the NCAA Division III Championships and well exceeded the NCAA standard of 41.00 meters. Scherwin defeated the next closest competitor by more than 12 meters. |
