MOWREY NAMED ECAC SOUTH PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CENTERVILLE, MA --- Senior Rachel Mowrey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) of the
Moravian College softball team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division
III Southern Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.
Mowrey, who was also named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week for
her performance, tossed her second one-hitter of the season, allowing the leadoff batter
of the seventh inning an infield single, while shutting out Messiah College, 4-0, to open
the Commonwealth Conference season. Mowrey's other no-hit bid this season
went 6 2/3 innings before allowing a single. She gave up just one walk in the contest
and she struck out one. Only three Messiah batters reached base in the game (one
on an error). With Moravian trailing 3-1 in the second game of the twinbill, Mowrey came
back on the mound and allowed just one hit and three base runners (two by errors) over
the final 2 2/3 innings. For the doubleheader, Mowrey pitched 9 2/3 innings
with two hits and no runs allowed.
Moravian is 13-3 overall and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Conference this season and will host
Susquehanna University on Friday, March 29th in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader
beginning at 1:00 p.m.
