FIVE NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) from the softball team, senior Erin Boyle (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy HS) and freshman Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) from the women's outdoor track & field squad, freshman Chris Clancy (Kendall Park, NJ/Bishop Ahr HS) of the baseball team and freshman Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) from the men's outdoor track & field team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Brey helped the Greyhounds to a 6-0 record last week with sweeps of Ursinus, Haverford and Susquehanna.  Brey only played half a game against Ursinus but made up for the lack of playing time in her other four games.  At Haverford, Brey was 6-for-9 with five doubles and five RBIs. S he had three doubles in the first game to tie the Moravian single game record.  Versus Susquehanna, Brey was 3-for-8 with a double, two homeruns and seven RBIs.  Brey's two homers gave her ten, breaking the Moravian career mark of nine.  Brey needed just 50 games to break the record.  Her first was a two-run shot and the second was a grand slam, both breaking open close games.  For the week, Brey was 9-for-19 (only one was a single), six doubles, two homeruns, 12 RBIs, four runs scored and she had five putouts, 11 assists and one error in 17 chances at third base.  Moravian is currently 17-3 on the year and 3-1 in the Commonwealth Conference and will return to action at nationally ranked Rowan (NJ) University on Thursday, April 4th.

Boyle captured first in the 1,500 meters at the Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College in a NCAA provisional and ECAC qualifying time of 4:43.77.  Boyle also took second in the 800 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:24.43.  The Greyhounds, who finished in third place at the Lehigh Valley Championships, are scheduled to compete at the Princeton University Invitational on Friday, April 6th and Saturday, April 7th.

Rotzell won both her field events at the Lehigh Valley Championships, taking first in the long jump with a leap of 5.23 meters (17 feet, two inches), good enough to qualify for the ECAC meet, and she won the triple jump with a track record and ECAC qualifying distance of 11.24 meters (36 feet, 10 ½ inches).  Rotzell also took seventh in the 100 meters in 13.24 seconds and sixth in the 200 meters in 27.76 seconds.

Clancy, a pitcher and outfielder, picked up the first win of his Moravian career on the mound, shutting out Susquehanna University, 3-0, to snap a four-game losing streak for the Greyhounds.  Clancy scattered five hits and allowed three walks while striking out eight in the nine-inning complete game.  The contest was Clancy's second straight complete game in Commonwealth Conference action.  At the plate last week, Clancy was five of seven with a double and a stolen base.  The Greyhounds are currently 7-11 overall and 2-5 in the Commonwealth Conference heading into a doubleheader at Susquehanna on Monday.

Silvoy qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in a pair of events to lead Moravian to a fifth place team finish at the Lehigh Valley Championships hosted by Muhlenberg College.  Silvoy placed third in the 100 meters in 11.26 seconds and he was second in the 200 meters in 22.52 seconds.  Silvoy was also a member of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team that placed third in 43.40 seconds.
