WOLFSBERGER NAMED MAC WINTER SCHOLAR ATHLETE

ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior track & field athlete Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/ Riverside HS) of Moravian College has been named the 2001-02 Middle Atlantic Corporation Winter Female Scholar Athlete Award winner.

The MAC Scholar Athlete Award is an award that is given to a senior male and female student-athlete each sport season (fall, winter and spring).  All 16 schools in the MAC are asked nominate one senior male and senior female student-athlete and the winner is selected by the MAC Awards Committee and the Executive Director of the MAC.  The award is in its second year and committee determines the award winners based on athletic achievement (40%), athletics excellence (40%) and service/leadership (20%).

Over the last three and a half years, Wolfsberger has won three MAC Cross Country Individual Championships, nine MAC Indoor Track & Field and nine MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and been named the Most Outstanding Performer at the MAC Championships four times, twice indoors and twice outdoors.  She has earned All-American status three times in cross country and seven times in track and field.  Wolfsberger won the 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in the 1,500 meters.  She has also been on the MAC All-Academic Team eight times and is a two-time Verizon Academic All-American. 

Off the field, Wolfsberger has been active on the Moravian campus.  She has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Student-Athlete Mentor program and Wolfsberger belongs to three honor societies (Kappa Delta Pi for education, Psi Chi for psychology and Omicron Delta Kappa for leadership) as well as serving as a student advisor.

Wolfsberger, who is majoring in Psychology and Elementary Education, currently has a 3.90 grade point average and will finish her degree in May.

Wolfsberger is the second Moravian athlete to win the MAC Scholar Athlete Award and the first female as Anthony Rediger was honored with the 2000-01 MAC MAC Scholar Athlete Award for the spring season last May.
