26 MORAVIAN TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES NAMED TO MAC ALL-STAR TEAMS

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams have had 26 student-athletes named to 46 positions on the 2002 Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star First & Second Teams.

To earn MAC All-Star honors, a student-athlete must finish in the top six of an event at the MAC Championships with the medal winners being named to the All-Star First Team and the fourth though sixth place finishers earning All-Star Second Team accolades.

The Moravian women, who won their tenth straight MAC indoor title, had 17 student- athletes earn 30 spots.  Senior thrower Carrie McCaffery (Lebanon, PA/Annville- Cleona HS) earned the most All-Star honors, being named to the First Team in the hammer throw with a second place toss of 40.67 meters (133 feet, five inches) and being named to the Second Team in the shot put with a fourth place finish of 11.04 meters (36 feet, 2 ¾ inches), in the discus with a fourth place throw of 33.71 meters (110 feet, seven inches) and in the javelin with a fifth place showing of 38.16 meters (125 feet, two inches).

Senior throw Sarah Shaneberger (Bethlehem, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) was a three-time First Team All-Star, winning the discus with a toss of 38.91 meters (127 feet, eight inches) and the hammer throw with a toss of 40.67 meters (133 feet, five inches) and a second place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.66 meters (41 feet, 6 ½ inches). Freshman jumper/sprinter Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) was also a three-time honoree, earning First Team accolades for her MAC Championship in the triple jump in 11.65 meters (38 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and her second place finish in the long jump at 5.19 meters (17 feet, ½ inch) and earning Second Team honors for her sixth place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.91 seconds.

The Greyhounds had six individuals earn All-Star honors in two events with senior distance runner Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and sophomore thrower Christina Scherwin (Denmark) each winning two MAC Individual titles. Shertzer was a First Team All-Star in the 10,000 meters as she won the event for the fourth straight year with a time of 39:17.76 and she captured the inaugural 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:25.90. Scherwin set MAC records while winning the javelin with a throw of 50.19 meters (164 feet, eight inches) and the shot put with a toss of 13.28 meters (43 feet, seven inches.

Senior distance runner Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS) was a two-time First Team All-Star, placing third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.88 and finishing third in the 1,500 meters in 4:42.67. Senior distance runner Erin Boyle (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy HS) posted a First Team All-Star finish in the 1,500 meters, taking second with a time of 4:39.23 and Boyle was a Second Team All-Star in the 800 meters with a sixth place time of 2:22.34. Senior sprinter Steph Horne (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn HS) earned First Team honors for placing third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.90 seconds and she was on the Second Team for finishing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.48. Freshman Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) was a Second Team All-Star in two events, placing fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:44.49 and finishing fourth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 41:08.67.

Also earning First Team All-Star status for the women's team were junior Jennifer Wagner (Riegelsville, PA/Wilson HS) in the 10,000 meters with a second place finish of 39:45.00, sophomore Nicole Sabaliauskas (Butler, NJ/Butler HS) taking second in the heptathlon with 3,264 points, senior Jennifer Lohn (Media, PA/Penncrest HS) placing second in the javelin with a toss of 38.79 meters (127 feet, three inches) and senior Tiffany Catalino (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS) finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:19.22.

Rounding out the Moravian women's squad with Second Team All-Star accolades were junior Amanda Wynn (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) placing fourth in the pole vault at 2.88 meters (nine feet, 5 ¼ inches), sophomore Angie Morgan (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) taking fifth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 42:14.49, freshman Ann Guzevich (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearley Regional HS) finishing sixth in the heptathlon with 2,414 points and freshman Julie Anderson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) taking sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 31.49 meters (103 feet, four inches).

The Moravian men's squad, which finished fifth at the MAC Championships, had nine student-athletes earn 16 All-Star slots led by senior Kevin Bush (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS) and freshman Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), who each earned four All-Star honors. Bush was a First Team honoree for finishing third in the 100-meter dash in 11.30 seconds and he was on the Second Team for a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.45 seconds. Silvoy earned First Team honors in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash with times of 22.21 seconds and 49.24 seconds, both good enough for second place in the races.

The duo teamed up with junior Brian Mack (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS) and sophomore Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) to earn First Team honors in the 4x100-meter relay with a school record time of 42.07 seconds, which placed them second. Bush and Silvoy also earned Second Team accolades in the 4x400-meter relay, placing fifth in a time of 3:27.02 with senior Josh Heebner (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) and junior George Wacker (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale HS).

Moore also earned First Team honors for his MAC Championship in the long jump, which he won with a leap of 6.92 meters (22 feet, 8 ½ inches). Sophomore John Lesoine (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg HS) placed second in the hammer throw with a school record toss of 50.23 meters (169 feet, 11 inches) to earn First Team honors.

Rounding out the Greyhounds were two decathletes, who earned Second Team honors. Senior Jim McIntyre (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) was fourth with 5,225 points while junior Eric Paul (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic HS) placed sixth with 5,020 points.
