WOLFSBERGER & MOORE NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS) of the women's track & field team and sophomore Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) from the men's track & field squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Wolfsberger, a distance runner who was trying to improve her time in the NCAA Division III qualifying for the 2002 NCAA Championships, won her heat of the 1,500 meters in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:39.70 at the Jim Tuppeny Twilight Meet hosted by Villanova University. Wolfsberger did improve her time in the 1,500 meters to 4:38.70, the best time by a Moravian runner this season and good enough for third place in the event at the McElligott Invitational hosted by Haverford College. Wolfsberger moved into the top 12 runners and should compete at the NCAA Championships this weekend at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN on Thursday, May 23rd until Saturday, May 25th.

Moore, a jumper, won the long jump at the McElligott Invitational but came up just short of making the NCAA qualifying standard.  He won the event with a leap of 7.04 meters (23 feet, 1 1/4 inches) and the standard he needed to reach was 7.05 meters (23 feet, 1 3/4 inches). Moore's distance came on his last jump of the competition.
