ZALESKI NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-STAR & COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

ANNVILLE, PA --- Freshman forward Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) of the Moravian College men's basketball team has been named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Star Second Team announced Tuesday and Zaleski was also named the Commonwealth Conference's Rookie of the Year by the conference coaches.

Moravian finished the 2001-02 season with an overall record of 14-11 and a 6-8 slate in the Commonwealth Conference, which put the squad in fifth place.  The Greyhounds are one of the best free throw shooting teams in the nation, currently among the top five in the nation at 79.5 percent (407 of 512).

Zaleski started all but one of the team's 25 games during his freshman season and he finished the year with a scoring average of 19.1 points per game, second in the Commonwealth Conference.  His 477 points was the seventh highest single season total in Moravian history.  Zaleski also averaged 6.6 rebounds per contest (sixth in the conference) with a total of 164 boards.  Zaleski, one of the top 25 shooters in the nation, finished the season with a 59.9 shooting percentage (191 of 319) to lead the Commonwealth Conference and he was fourth on the Moravian squad in free throw percentage at 82.9 percent (92 of 111).  His attempts and percentage ranked him third in the Commonwealth Conference.  Zaleski led the Greyhounds with 17 blocked shots and he added 24 assists and 32 steals in his debut season.
