PENCE NAMED TO D3FOOTBALL.COM PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN FIRST TEAM
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College senior defensive back Jarod Pence (Livingston, NJ/Livingston
HS) has been named to the 2002 D3Football.com Preseason All-American First Team announced
Tuesday.
Pence, who was a D3Football.com Second Team All-American last season, helped lead
the Greyhounds to a 5-5 overall record last season with victories in the squad's
last two games.
Pence was one of 51 players selected to the
first and second teams in the nation. The Middle Atlantic Conference had just two players
selected to the D3Football.com Preseason All-American Teams with the other first team selection
being defensive end Steven Wilson of King's College.
Pence, who moved to cornerback last season after two years at safety, was a Middle
Atlantic Conference First Team All-Star, a Football Gazette Third Team All-Region
selection and an Eastern College Athletic Conference Southeast Honorable Mention All-Star
last fall. Pence led Moravian, the MAC and the nation with 36 pass break-ups (3.6
per game) a year ago with a team high five interceptions. Pence also added 51 tackles
with 33 solo stops, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Pence had seven
tackles, a forced fumble and a school record tying three interceptions in Moravian's
17-7 victory over rival Muhlenberg College.
The Greyhounds will begin their 2002 season on Saturday, September 7th with a MAC home
game with FDU-Madison beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Steel Field.
