THREE GREYHOUNDS, TEAM AMONG TOP 35 IN FINAL NCAA SOFTBALL STATS
BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College softball team had three players ranked in the top
35 of the final 2002 NCAA Division III statistics released by the national office this
week and the Greyhounds were ranked in six team categories.
Sophomore third baseman Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) was 15th in the
nation in RBIs per game with an average of 1.27 RBIs per contest (52 RBIs in 41 games)
and she was 16th in the country in home runs per contest with an average of 0.24 per game
(10 homers in 41 games).
Senior pitcher Rachel Mowrey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) was 32nd in the
nation in earned run average with a 1.13 ERA this past spring. Freshman outfielder Krissy
Cianfichi (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East HS) was tied for 19th in the country in
toughest to strikeout. Cianfichi only struck out once in 58 at-bats last season.
The Greyhounds, who posted a school record 34 victories, while going 34-8 and winning their
third consecutive Commonwealth Conference title and making their fifth straight appearance
in the NCAA Tournament, were ranked ninth in the nation in win-loss percentage at .810. Moravian
was also 15th in batting average at .351, 17th in ERA at 1.17, 22nd in fielding percentage
at .960, 22nd in slugging percentage at .465 and tied for 22nd in double plays, averaging
0.38 double plays per game (16 in 42 games). |
