MORAVIAN WOMEN'S TENNIS SELECTED TO WIN COMMONWEALTH TITLE
ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College women's tennis team has been selected to finish
first in the 2002 Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the conference head
coaches.
The Greyhounds, who won their second straight Middle Atlantic Conference Championship
in 2001, received 36 points and two first place votes to finish three points ahead of Susquehanna
University, which also received two first place votes. Rounding our the top four
were Messiah College in third place with 29 points and Juniata College in fourth place
with 25 points and a first place vote.
Moravian, under the direction of 16-year head coach Dawn Benner, returns four starters
and eight letterwinners from last year's 16-0 squad that won its fifth MAC title in the
last six years. Since the 1994 season, Moravian is 117-11 with five Commonwealth
championships.
The Greyhounds will open their 2002 campaign on Thursday, September 5th in a MAC Commonwealth
match at Lebanon Valley College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
