FIVE GREYHOUNDS NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Jennifer Genevese (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) from the
women's tennis team, junior Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) and
freshman Lindsey Siracusa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury HS) of the women's volleyball squad,
junior David Darmofal (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights HS) from the football
team and sophomore Jim Feimster (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain HS) have been named
the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Genevese, the Greyhounds' top singles and doubles player, has led Moravian to a
pair of victories to start the 2002 season. Genevese earned a singles and doubles
victory in both of Moravian's wins, a 7-2 victory at Lebanon Valley College and an 8-1
triumph at Juniata College. The Greyhounds, who have won 25 consecutive matches dating
back to the fall of 2000, return to action in their home opener on Tuesday, September 10th
versus the University of Scranton at 4:00 p.m.
Lawrence, a setter, and Siracusa, a middle hitter, were named to the All-Tournament
Team and led the Greyhound volleyball squad to a 4-1 record and a runner-up finish at the
Gettysburg Battlefield Classic last weekend. Lawrence had 198 assists, 56 digs, 14
kills and eight service aces in Moravian's 17 games at the tournament while Siracusa had
62 kills, a .505 hitting percentage, 12 blocks, 13 service aces and eight digs for the
Greyhounds. On the tournament's first day, Siracusa had a .788 hitting percentage
as she made 26 kills in 33 attempts with no errors in 3-0 victories over Mary Washington
College and Washington (MD) College. The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday,
September 10th in their home opener with the University of Scranton at 7:00 p.m. Moravian
head coach Shelley Bauder has a chance to earn her 200th career victory in the match.
Darmofal, a tailback, led the Greyhound football team to a 21-14 season opening
victory over FD-Florham. Darmofal had his best day as a Greyhound, gaining
100 yards on 16 carries with the game-winning touchdown with 9:11 to play in the fourth
quarter. On the decisive drive, Darmofal carried the ball on seven of 11 plays
for 53 of 70 yards. The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 14th in
a road contest at King's College beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Feimster, a defender, helped the Greyhounds to the championship of the Kwik Goal/T.G.I.
Friday's Classic at Muhlenberg College last weekend. Feimster, who was the
tournament MVP, had the game-winning goal in each match of the tournament. His winner
against Muhlenberg came on a direct kick with under 17 minutes remaining in the match. The
goals were the first two of Feimster's career. Moravian defeated DeSales
University, 3-1, and Muhlenberg, 2-1, at the Kwik Goal/T.G.I. Friday's Classic. The
Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 14th in their home opener with Delaware
Valley College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Lawrence and Feimster have earned the award for the second consecutive week. |
