ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior linebacker John Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central
Catholic HS) and junior tailback David Darmofal (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington
Heights HS) of the Moravian College football team have been named to the Middle
Atlantic Conference Weekly Football Honor Roll for their performances last week.
Cupples led the Moravian defense with 12 tackles as the Greyhounds posted
a 22-7 victory over Wilkes University in MAC action. Moravian, which entered the game ranked
15th in the nation in rushing defense, allowed the Colonels, who began the contest ranked
15th in the country in rushing offense at 242 yards per game, to 126 yards on 41 carries. Cupples had
four solo tackles including two of Moravian’s seven tackles for loss. He also had
one of the Greyhound’s four interceptions in the game.
Darmofal ran for a career high 107 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries
in the victory at Wilkes. Darmofal, who was not stopped for a loss in
the game, started the scoring 4:51 into the game with a seven-yard touchdown run and he
added the game winning score with 4:33 left in the third quarter on a three-yard run. Darmofal helped
the Greyhounds gain 154 yards on the ground and control the ball for 32:51 in the win.
Moravian has a four-game winning streak, its longest since a five-game streak in 1997,
and the squad has clinched at least a .500 season, the 14th in head coach Scot
Dapp’s 16-year career. The Greyhounds, now 5-2 on the season, return to
action on Saturday, November 2nd when they host Albright College in Moravian's annual Homecoming
game beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Steel Field.
