THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) from
the softball team, junior Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) of the men’s
track & field squad and sophomore Chris Clancy (Kendall Park, NJ/Bishop Ahr
HS) from the baseball team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes
of the Week for their performances last week.
Brey, a third baseman, helped the Greyhounds post a 3-1 record last
week with a doubleheader split at Ursinus College and a sweep of rival Muhlenberg College. Brey hit
.667 for the week with eight hits in 12 at-bats and she added three doubles, three home
runs and 11 RBIs. Brey was three-for-six at Ursinus with three doubles
and three RBIs, and she had a sacrifice, which led to the only run in Moravian’s
1-0 victory. Brey went five-for-six against the Mules with eight RBIs
and a trio of two-run homers. Brey also drew a pair of walks in the doubleheader.
Brey also added five putout and ten assists in 17 chances in the field last week at third
base. Moravian is 14-4 on the season and will return to action on Thursday, April 3rd when
the team hosts Rowan (NJ) University in a non-conference doubleheader in Bethlehem beginning
at 2:30 p.m.
Moore, a sprinter and jumper, captured first place in the 100-meter
dash in a track record time of 10.97 seconds at the 2003 Lehigh Valley Championships hosted
by Muhlenberg College. The Greyhounds finished in seventh place at the meet. Moore also
finished second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.42 seconds, and he was part of the
4x100-meter relay that finished fourth in a time of 43.68 seconds. Moravian will compete
at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m.
Clancy, an outfielder and pitcher, earned a complete game victory in
his only outing last week as the Greyhounds posted a 3-1 record last week including a 3-0
mark in Commonwealth Conference action. Clancy went all six innings in
Moravian’s 4-2 victory over Susquehanna University and he allowed two runs, only
one earned, on five hits, three walks and two hit batsman to go with three strikeouts.
When not pitching, Clancy hit .462 last week with six hits in 13 at-bats.
He added five runs, two RBIs, a home run and a sacrifice. In the field, Clancy had
six putouts and two assists in eight chances. The Greyhounds, 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the
Commonwealth Conference, will return to action on Tuesday, April 1st when they host King’s
College in a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
