TRIO OF GREYHOUND PLAYERS; MORAVIAN BASKETBALL SQUADS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s basketball have
a total of three individuals ranked in the top 30 nationally in the first release of the
NCAA Division III basketball statistics for the 2002-03 season for games through January
5th. Both teams are also ranked in the top ten in the country in team categories.
For the men’s squad, senior guard Willie Reynolds (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty
HS) and sophomore forward Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown
HS) are tied for 17th in free throw percentage at 90.9 percent. Both players
are 20 of 22 on the season.
The Greyhounds are 6-1 on the season and were ranked seventh in the country in free throw
percentage at 77.9 percent to begin the week. Moravian, which was the nation’s leader
in free throw percentage last season, has improved that number to 79 percent this week.
Junior guard Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS) was ranked twice
for the Moravian women. Hughes is tied for 19th in three-point field goals per game at
2.7 and she is 26th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 45.2 percent.
Moravian, which is 7-2 on the season, is sixth in the county in scoring offense, averaging
81.3 points per game.
Both teams will host a tournament this weekend with the women playing Friday, January
10th and Saturday, January 11th and the men competing on Saturday, January 11th and Sunday,
January 12th.
