FOUR GREYHOUNDS NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS) and
senior Kristen Sarnocinski (Harleysville, PA/Germantown Academy HS) from
the women’s basketball team and senior Ken Greb (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas
Valley Regional HS) and sophomore Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown
HS) of the men’s basketball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes
of the Week for their performances last week.
Hughes, a guard, led the Greyhounds to a perfect 4-0 week and the championship
of the 2nd Annual The Rock Invitational at Moravian while helping the team extend its winning
streak to eight straight games. Hughes averaged 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds
and 4.0 steals per game last week while shooting 44.4 percent (8 of 18) behind the three-point
line and 90 percent (9 of 10) at the charity stripe. Hughes started the
week with seven rebounds, five points and four steals in a 70-59 victory over Delaware
Valley College and she had ten points, five rebounds and four steals in a 91-40 win versus
Ursinus College. Hughes helped the Greyhounds open the Rock Invitational
with a 21-point performance in Moravian’s 98-58 victory over Wesley College. She
added five three-pointers, four steals, three assists and three rebounds in the game. Hughes capped
off the week with 11 points, six rebounds and four steals in an 87-72 victory over York
(PA) College in the championship game.
Sarnocinski, a forward, averaged 11.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game
last week for the Greyhounds while shooting 52.9 percent (18 of 34) from the floor. Sarnocinski began
the week with a career high 21 points in the victory versus Delaware Valley and she added
six points and three assists against Ursinus. Sarnocinski netted eight
points and had five rebounds in the win versus Wesley and she finished off the week with
12 points and five assists against York.
The Moravian women are currently 9-2 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday,
January 15th when the squad hosts Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m. in a Commonwealth
Conference contest.
Greb, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a 2-2 record last week and he
was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 25th Annual Greyhound Rock Classic. Greb averaged
11.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game last week with ten assists, seven steals and six
blocked shots. He started the week with six points and six rebounds in a 65-47 victory
at Delaware Valley before scoring 21 points and grabbing seven boards in a 79-77 overtime
loss at The College of New Jersey. Greb netted nine points with ten rebounds
in Moravian’s opening game of the Greyhound Rock Classic, a 71-54 victory over Connecticut
College. He finished the week with ten points and 12 boards in a 60-53 loss to rival Muhlenberg
College in the title game. Greb shot 43.2 percent (16 of 37) from the
floor and he connected on 12 of 15 free throw attempts (80 percent) during the week.
Zaleski, a forward, was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the
Greyhound Rock Classic and he averaged 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last week. Zaleski began
the week with 14 points and 12 rebounds at Delaware Valley. He scored a team high 23 points
and added seven rebounds in the loss to The College of New Jersey. Zaleski had
13 points and eight rebounds versus Connecticut and he led the Greyhounds with 14 points
in the loss to Muhlenberg.
The Greyhounds are currently 7-3 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday,
January 14th when the squad hosts Elizabethtown College at 8:00 p.m. in a Commonwealth
Conference contest.
