TRIO OF GREYHOUND PLAYERS; MORAVIAN BASKETBALL SQUADS RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College men’s and women’s basketball teams
have a total of three individuals ranked in the top 30 nationally in the second release
of the NCAA Division III basketball statistics for the 2002-03 season including games through
January 12th. Both teams are also ranked in the top ten in the country in team categories.
For the men’s squad, senior guard Willie Reynolds (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty
HS) is 17th in the nation in free throw percentage at 90.6 percent (29 of 32)
while sophomore forward Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) is
tied for 27th in free throw percentage at 88.6 percent (30 of 44).
The Greyhounds, who are 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Conference on the season,
were ranked third in the country in free throw percentage at 77.7 percent to begin the
week. Moravian, which was the nation’s leader in free throw percentage last season,
has improved that number to 79 percent this week.
Junior guard Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS) is 22nd in the nation
in three-point field goal percentage at 45.0 percent (27 of 60).
Moravian, which is 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference, is second
in the county in scoring offense, averaging 83.2 points per game. The Greyhounds are also
ranked 22nd in the nation in three-point field goals per game at 6.2.
The Moravian women will be in action on Wednesday, January 15th as they host Elizabethtown
College in a Commonwealth Conference game at 7:00 p.m. The men’s squad will return
to action on Thursday, January 16th in a non-conference game at the University of Scranton
beginning at 8:00 p.m.
