FOUR GREYHOUNDS NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Kristen Sarnocinski (Harleysville, PA/Germantown Academy HS) and Kelly McLean (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) from the women’s basketball team and sophomore Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) and senior Ken Greb (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional HS) of the men’s basketball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Sarnocinski, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a 1-1 week in Commonwealth Conference action. Sarnocinski had eight points and four assists in Moravian’s 62-53 victory over Elizabethtown College, and she was the only Greyhound in double figures with ten points in Moravian’s 85-61 loss to nationally ranked Messiah College. Sarnocinski had six rebounds in the game at Messiah, and she shot 52.9 percent (9 of 17) from the floor during the week.

McLean, also a forward, had 12 points and nine rebounds in the victory over Elizabethtown, and she contributed three steals and three blocked shots in the win. McLean added six points in the game at Messiah.

The women’s basketball team is 10-3 overall this season and tied for second in the Commonwealth Conference with a 3-1 record. All three of Moravian’s losses this season are to nationally ranked teams and have come on the road. The Greyhounds will return to action on Tuesday, January 21st when they host Widener University in a Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Zaleski, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a 2-1 record last week including a pair of victories in Commonwealth Conference action. Zaleski averaged 21 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 52.9 percent (27 of 51) from the floor and 85.7 percent (6 of 7) at the charity stripe. In Moravian’s 76-70 victory over Elizabethtown College, Zaleski scored a season high 32 points, and he added ten rebounds. Zaleski was limited to 15 points and eight rebounds in a 67-55 loss at the University of Scranton, but he finished off the week with 16 points and three rebounds in Moravian’s 82-58 victory at Messiah College.

Greb, also a forward, averaged 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last week while shooting 61.5 percent (16 of 26) from the floor and 85.7 percent (12 of 14) from the foul line. Greb had ten points, five assists and four rebounds in Moravian’s win over Elizabethtown. He contributed 14 points and five rebounds in the loss to Scranton. Greb had a hot hand at Messiah, making seven of 11 field goals and six of seven free throws, as he scored a team high 20 points. Greb also had eight rebounds and four steals in the victory.

The men’s basketball team is 9-4 overall this season and first in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-0 record. The Greyhounds will return to action on Monday, January 20th when they travel to Swarthmore College for a non-conference contest beginning at 8:00 p.m.
