MORAVIAN’S McLAIN NAMED SECOND TEAM PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Moravian College senior punter John McLain (Belvidere, NJ/Belvidere HS) has been named a 2003 NCAA Division III Second Team Preseason All-American by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette announced Thursday.

A total of 75 players were named to the three-preseason All-American teams selected with McLain the only representative from the Middle Atlantic Conference. Locally, senior running back Matt Bernardo and senior offensive lineman Chris Radomski of Muhlenberg College were also named to the Second Team.

McLain ranked 14th in Division III last year by averaging 38.8 yards for the Greyhounds. He returned to the Moravian line-up last season after missing the entire 2001 campaign with an illness. McLain was named to the All-Conference Second Team and the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-South Region Second Team. McLain was called on 56 times to punt and he had just two kicks blocked while placing 13 inside the 20-yard line. He had 12 punts of over 50 yards and two over 60 yards with a season long of 64 yards.

Moravian posted a 7-4 record last year and played in its first-ever Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Southeast Championship game, falling to McDaniel, 21-7. The Greyhounds will have 49 letterwinners and ten starters back this season, which begins on Friday, September 5th in a MAC game at FDU-Florham. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
