MORAVIAN’S SCHERWIN PLACES SECOND IN JAVELIN AT WORLD UNIVERSITY
GAMES
DAEGU, SOUTH KOREA--- Christina Scherwin (Copenhagen, Denmark), a member
of the Moravian College women’s track and field team and the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Division
III National Champion and record holder in the javelin, finished second the javelin at
the 2003 World University Games in Daegu, South Korea.
Scherwin, who won the 2003 Middle Atlantic Conference titles in the
shot put, both indoors and outdoors, and the javelin, had a throw of 56.08 meters (184
feet) in the javelin competition. Scherwin's best mark came on her third
of six throws in the competition. Barbara Madejczyk of Poland won the
javelin with a toss of 56.23 meters (184 feet, five inches).
Scherwin, who was competing for her home country of Denmark, was ranked
36th in the International Association of Athletics Federations World Rankings earlier in
August after winning the 2003 Danish Championships in the javelin and shot put for the
second consecutive year.
Scherwin, who helped the Greyhounds win their eighth straight MAC Indoor
title and 11th consecutive MAC Outdoor Championship, will return to Moravian in time for
the fall semester for her final year of eligibility with the Greyhounds.
