LAWRENCE & ZIPF NAMED TO COMMONWEALTH ALL-CONFERENCE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior setter Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) of the Moravian College women’s volleyball team has been named to the 2003 Commonwealth All-Conference First Team announced by the Middle Atlantic Corporation Wednesday while senior outside hitter Kim Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name HS) earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

The duo has helped the Greyhounds to a 25-8 record this season. Moravian posted a 4-3 mark in Commonwealth Conference action and will be the third seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament. The Greyhounds will play at second seeded Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 p.m. The playoff appearance is the eighth straight for Moravian.

Lawrence, who has missed the last six matches with an injury and may miss the remainder of the year, has a team high 1,010 assists, and she has added 334 digs. Lawrence, who made the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team for the third consecutive season, has 78 kills, 47 service aces, 29 blocks and a .251 hitting percentage this fall. Lawrence has become the school record holder in career service aces with 221 and in assists with 4,682 assists, breaking Katie Kramer's mark, and Lawrence has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team the last two seasons.

Zipf, who has been limited to action in the back row for nearly a month an injury, has 224 kills this season, and Zipf has contributed 296 digs, 22 service aces, 17 blocks, 22 assists, and a .274 hitting percentage. Zipf, who was on the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team the last three years and the AVCA All-Region squad the last two seasons, broke Amy Sandt's career record for kills this season and now has 1,499 career kills. Zipf needs just 90 more digs to break Sandt's career mark of 1,634. Zipf was the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year in 2000 and the Player of the Year in 2001.
