YOUNG & TOMASZEWSKI HONORED AS COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior catcher/designated hitter Michael Young (Palmerton, PA/ Palmerton HS) of the Moravian College baseball team has been named the first Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for the 2004 season announced Monday while junior pitcher Steve Tomaszewski (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) was honored as the Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.

Young led the Greyhounds in hitting last week with a .454 batting average in Moravian’s four contests. Young had six hits in 11 at-bats with four RBIs, four walks and a run scored. In the Greyhounds’ season opening loss to rival Muhlenberg College, Young had a single and walk while making one putout. He added two hits, an RBI and four putouts in Moravian’s first Commonwealth Conference game of the season, a 3-1 loss to Juniata College. Young was one-for-three with two walks, an RBI and a run scored in Moravian’s 7-3 win versus the Eagles, and he finished the series with a two-for-three, two-RBI performance in a 6-5 loss to Juniata.

Tomaszewski earned a complete game victory in his only start of the week, a 7-3, eight-inning win versus Juniata in Commonwealth Conference action. Tomaszewski allowed three runs, just one of them earned, on five hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out six batters. Tomaszewski, who sees action in the outfield when he isn’t on the mound, also had a double and a run scored in Moravian’s 13-4 loss to Muhlenberg to open the season while playing right field. Tomaszewski also had a putout and three assists in the field last week.

Moravian is 1-3 overall and 1-2 in Commonwealth Conference action this season. The Greyhounds are scheduled to play six games at the Clearwater Invitational this week as the team concludes its spring break trip to Florida.
