ZAMEK & CANIGA NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Hayley Zamek (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) of the women’s lacrosse team and sophomore Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) from the men’s tennis squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Zamek, who in her first season ever at the goalie position, made a career high 15 saves in the Greyhounds’ 14-4 loss at Susquehanna University to open the 2004 Middle Atlantic Conference season. In three matches this year, Zamek has made 26 saves and has a 13.67 goals-against average. Moravian has a 1-2 overall record and a 0-1 slate in MAC action. The Greyhounds will return to action on Tuesday, March 23rd in a non-conference match at Haverford College beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Caniga, who is in his first season for Moravian, earned the Greyhounds only point in a 6-1 loss to rival Muhlenberg College last week. Caniga, who has a 4-1 singles mark this season, had a straight sets victory at second singles against the Mules. Caniga is also part of Moravian’s top doubles team with junior Mike Helmuth (Bethlehem, PA/Harrisonburg {VA} HS). The Greyhounds are 2-1 this season and return to action on Monday, March 22nd in a non-conference match at FDU-Florham beginning at 3:30 p.m.
