THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomores Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) and Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) of the softball team and senior Jason Toedter (Easton, PA/Easton HS) from the men’s tennis squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

McWilliams, a designated player and first baseman, helped the Greyhounds post a 6-0 record last week including a pair of Commonwealth Conference wins that clinched the team’s tenth consecutive postseason appearance. McWilliams began the week with a two-for-three performance with a doubles, two runs and a walk in an 8-0 victory at Delaware Valley. She then went two for five with three RBIs, two runs, a double, a sacrifice fly and a home run in a sweep of Haverford College. McWilliams finished the week with a two for six performance against Susquehanna, including a pair of RBI doubles in the second game to rally Moravian to its 27th straight win this season. McWilliams also had five putouts during the week.

Hennessy tossed three complete game shutouts with a no-hitter last week to lead Moravian. Hennessy began the week with a five-inning, no-hit shutout of Delaware Valley College in which she walked just one batter while striking out nine. The no-hitter was the first of Hennessy’s collegiate career. Hennessy then had a two-hit, one-walk shutout of Haverford College that included ten strikeouts. She finished off the week with a one-hit, two walk shutout of Susquehanna University with six strikeouts. Hennessy, who is now 14-0 on the year with eight shutouts, also had one putout and eight assists in the field. Moravian, the top ranked team in the nation, has won 27 consecutive games. The Greyhounds are 27-1 overall and can clinch the top seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a victory versus Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday, April 20th in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.

Toedter, Moravian’s top singles player, helped the Greyhounds post a 3-1 record last week. Toedter won all four of his singles matches to improve his season record to 12-4 and his career mark to 49-18. With just one more singles victory, Toedter will tie the Moravian career mark of 50 singles wins. Toedter was 3-1 at second doubles last week with partner sophomore Nick Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS). Moravian is 8-5 overall and will play its final dual match of the season on Wednesday, April 21st at DeSales University beginning at 4:00 p.m. Moravian and DeSales will co-host the 2004 Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Individual Championships on Saturday and Sunday, April 24th and 25th.
