MORAVIAN’S TOEDTER HONORED AS COMMONWEALTH PLAYER OF THE
YEAR; TOEDTER & NEIL CANIGA NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM
ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior Jason Toedter (Easton, PA/Easton HS) of the
Moravian College men’s tennis team has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player
of the Year announced Monday. Toedter and sophomore Neil Caniga (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees
HS) were named to the All-Conference First Team.
Toedter, who has been on the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team
the last four years, became the first male player in Moravian history to win the Middle
Atlantic Conference Individual Singles Championship with a pair of three-set victories
in the semifinals and finals on Sunday. Toedter completed the season with
a 17-4 singles mark including a 12-2 record as the Greyhounds’ top singles player. Toedter also
finished his career with a 54-18 singles record, breaking the Moravian record for most
singles wins in a career, previously 50 set by David Kurvink in 2003.
In doubles action this year, Toedter had a 10-4 mark with sophomore Nick
Schuett (Oviedo, FL/Oviedo HS), including a 9-4 record at second doubles.
Caniga, in his first season at Moravian, posted a 14-4 singles record
with a 12-2 record at second singles. Caniga also had a 10-7 record in
doubles action with junior Mike Helmuth (Bethlehem, PA/Harrisonburg {VA} HS) with
an 8-6 mark at first doubles.
Moravian completed its 2004 season with a 9-5 overall record and a 3-4 record in Commonwealth
Conference action.
