HACKLEMAN & ZALESKI HONORED AS MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Freshman Jenny Hackleman (Solvang, CA/Rutgers Prep {NJ} HS) from the women’s basketball team and junior Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) of the men’s basketball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Hackleman, a forward, helped Moravian to a 2-1 record last week with a runner-up finish in the 3rd Annual Starters Moravian Winter Classic. Hackleman had seven points and 12 rebounds in the Greyhounds’ 81-69 victory over FDU-Florham in the Sunsational Hoops Classic in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Hackleman then added eight points, four rebounds and a career high four blocked shots in Moravian’s 67-48 victory over William Paterson University in the opening round of the Starters Moravian Winter Classic. She finished off the week with eight rebounds, five points and a pair of blocked shots in an 81-42 loss to fourth-ranked University of Scranton in the championship game. Moravian is currently 7-4 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, January 14th in a Commonwealth Conference contest at Lebanon Valley College beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Zaleski, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a 3-1 record last week including the championship of the 26th Annual Greyhound Rock Classic. Zaleski was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and averaged 19.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last week while shooting 66.0 percent from the floor. Zaleski began the week with 22 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a 76-64 victory versus Delaware Valley College. He contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in an 83-81 overtime loss to The College of New Jersey. Zaleski opened the Greyhound Rock Classic with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 81-73 victory versus College Misericordia, and he added 15 points, three rebounds and two steals in a 70-38 win over Grove City College in the championship game. Zaleski made 31 of 47 field goal attempts during the week, including 16 of 20 during the tournament, and he also connected on one of three three-point attempts and 13 of 17 foul shots. The Greyhounds, who are 7-5 overall, will return to action on Tuesday, January 13th in a Commonwealth Conference game at Lebanon Valley College beginning at 8:00 p.m.
