MORAVIAN’S SHIPMAN AND MALISHCHAK NAMED LEHIGH VALLEY SMALL
COLLEGE BASKETBALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE TEAMS OF THE MONTH
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Tracie Shipman (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan HS) and Lucas
Malishchak (Wanamie, PA/Nanticoke HS) from the Moravian College basketball teams
have been named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Teams announced
at the January luncheon of the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization held
at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem Tuesday afternoon.
The Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization is made up of the seven small
college schools in the Lehigh Valley including NCAA Division II schools East Stroudsburg
University of Pennsylvania and Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and NCAA Division III
schools Cedar Crest College, Delaware Valley College, DeSales University, Moravian College
and Muhlenberg College.
Shipman, a business management and political science double major, has
helped the Moravian women open the year with a 7-4 record. Shipman, a
forward, is averaging 4.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a starter for the Greyhounds.
She is seeing 22 minutes of action per game, and the team captain has added 15 steals and
12 assists this winter.
Joining Shipman on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month were
Amanda Swartz from Cedar Crest, Shannon McCormick of Delaware Valley, Holly Liebl from
DeSales, Niki Cox of East Stroudsburg, Brooke Martin from Kutztown and Lindsay Tis of Muhlenberg.
Malishchak, a psychology and sociology double major, has led the Greyhounds
to a 7-5 record in the first half of the season. Malishchak, a guard,
is averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as Moravian’s starting point guard.
He has a team high 59 assists and 23 steals with just 28 turnovers while playing 26.7 minutes
per contest.
Joining Malishchak on the January Scholar-Athlete Team of the Month
were Sean Smith of Delaware Valley, Jeff Clifford from DeSales, Anthony Ross of East Stroudsburg,
Alburn Brown from Kutztown and Jimmy O’Brien of Muhlenberg.
The final 2003-04 Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday,
February 17th at Starters Restaurant in Bethlehem.
