KIM HUGHES & MORAVIAN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SQUAD CONTINUE
TO BE RANKED IN NCAA STATISTICS
INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- Senior guard Kim Hughes (Manasquan, NJ/St. Rose HS) is
ranked and the Moravian College women’s basketball team is also ranked nationally
in the seventh NCAA Division III basketball statistical rankings released by the NCAA on
Wednesday.
Hughes, who has helped the Greyhounds to a 16-8 record this season,
is ranked 22nd in the country in free throw percentage at 85.1 percent (63 of 74). Hughes returned
to action in Moravian’s last game after missing three contests with an illness.
The Moravian women are ranked 18th in the nation as a team in free throw percentage,
making 73.3 percent of their free throws (437 of 596). The Greyhounds have the best single
game performance of the season at the charity stripe this year and in the history of the
NCAA with a 35-for-35 performance versus Susquehanna University on December 7, 2003. Moravian
has made 145 more free throws than its opponents this season, and the squad has made just
23 fewer free throws than it opponents have attempted this winter.
The Greyhounds will close out the 2003-04 regular season on Saturday, February 21st versus
Elizabethtown College in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston
Hall. Moravian, which has qualified for the postseason for the third straight year, will
find out after the game the site for its Commonwealth Conference semifinal versus Lebanon
Valley College on Wednesday, February 25th.
