MORAVIAN’ S ANDERSON, McGARVIE & MULLINS NAMED TO
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

EWING, NJ --- Seniors Julie Anderson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty HS), Heather McGarvie (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) and Chelsea Mullins (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe HS) have been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Anderson was a first team selection while McGarvie and Mullins earned second team honors.

By making the All-District First Team, Anderson is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® accolades, which will be announced on Thursday, June 23rd.

The Academic All-American® program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. To be eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve.

The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools. Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams. District II is made up of schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The trio helped the Greyhounds win the team’s tenth straight Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship and the squad’s 13th straight MAC Outdoor Championship this year.

Anderson placed second in hammer throw at 38.52 meters and sixth in discus at 32.62 meters at the 2005 MAC Outdoor meet and she was second 25-lb weight throw with toss of 13.34 meters at the MAC Indoor Championship. Anderson captured first place in 25-lb weight throw at 2003 and 2004 MAC Indoor Championships, and she was second in hammer at 2004 outdoor championship and third in 2003. Anderson competed on tennis team in fall and helped squad to three conference championships and two undefeated seasons. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2005 and is headed to Germany to teach.

McGarvie placed second in 800 meters in 2:16.56, third in the 1,500 meters in 4:48.22 and fifth in 4x400 relay at the MAC Outdoor Championship, and she won 800 meters and was second in 1,500 meters and 4x400 relay at the MAC Indoor Championship. In cross country, McGarvie earned All-Conference honors with a fourth place finish and NCAA Mideast All-Region honors with an 11th place finish in 2004. McGarvie won 800 meters as a freshman at 2002 MAC indoor meet and won 4x800 relay in same meet. She placed in the top five 14 times in individual track events and six times in relays at conference championship meets. McGarvie helped the distance medley relay team as a freshman place eighth at ECAC Championships and earn All-American honors at 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships. She earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in cross country all four years and ran at the national championships in 2001 and 2002. McGarive helped the cross country team won MAC Championship in 2001 & 2002.

Mullins won 10,000 meters in 37:47.19 and was second in 5,000 meters at the MAC Outdoor Championship, and she placed third in 5,000 meters during the MAC Indoor Championship. In cross country, Mullins earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish and NCAA Mideast All-Region honors with a ninth place finish in 2004. Mullins won 5,000 meters as a junior at 2004 indoor meet and placed in the top five six times in individual track events and once in relays at conference championship meets. Mullins earned All-Conference and All-Region honors in cross country as a freshman and a senior and ran at the national championships in 2001.

Anderson will now try to become the 30th ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in Moravian history and the 25th in the last 12 years.
