THREE GREYHOUND STUDENT-ATHLETES & MORAVIAN SOFTBALL SQUAD
RANKED IN FINAL NCAA DIVISION III STATISTICS RELEASE OF 2005 SEASON
INDIANAPOLIS, IN --- The Moravian College softball team was ranked nationally in four
statistical categories while three Greyhound student-athletes are ranked individually in
the final NCAA Division III statistics ranking of the 2005 season released recently by
the NCAA.
Junior pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) was
third in victories with 29, tenth in earned run average at 0.64, tied for 13th in saves
with three and 38th in strikeouts per seven innings with an average of 7.8.
Senior shortstop Heather Bortz (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) finished
her final season ranked 76th in the nation in batting average with a .428 average.
Junior designated player Richelle McWilliams (Riegelsville, PA/Easton HS) was
tied for 26th in home runs with an average of 0.23 per game having hit nine homers in 39
games.
Moravian was second in earned run average at 0.79, eighth in won-loss percentage at .822,
13th in the country in fielding percentage at .969 and tied for 49th in home runs per game
with an average of 0.49 homers per contest.
The Greyhounds finished the 2005 season with a 37-8 overall record and participated in
the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament for the eighth straight year. Moravian
was also 13-1 in the Commonwealth Conference regular season and captured its fifth consecutive
Commonwealth Conference Tournament Championship and sixth straight Commonwealth Conference
title.
