GREYHOUNDS SELECTED SECOND IN MAC PRESEASON FOOTBALL POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College football team has been selected to finish second and Delaware Valley College was picked to win the 2005 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship based on a poll of the conference head coaches released at the conference’s annual media day luncheon on Wednesday.

Delaware Valley, the defending MAC Champion, received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes, and the Aggies, who made it to the quarterfinals of last year’s NCAA Division III Tournament, had a total of 98 points. Moravian, which returns 15 starters from the ECAC Southwest Region runner-up, received the other two first place votes and was tied second overall with Widener University at 78 points.

The Greyhounds return 60 letterwinners this season, and head coach Scot Dapp looks to rely on several returning players to lead the squad. Coach Dapp has last year’s second leading rusher in the MAC returning as junior running back Chris Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) comes back to Moravian after setting a single season record with 1,789 yards last season and the Greyhounds’ career mark with 2,840 yards in just two seasons. Senior defensive back Tyler Chomik (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) will anchor the defense after being named to the All-MAC First Team last fall.

Albright College and Wilkes University were selected fourth and fifth, respectively. The Lions received 71 points while the Colonels had 69 points. Albright won the ECAC Southeast Region last fall. King’s College and Lycoming College were sixth and seventh with the Monarchs receiving 61 points and the Warriors earning 50 points.

Susquehanna University was picked eighth in the poll with 37 points while Lebanon Valley College was ninth with 28 points. Rounding out the poll were FDU-Florham in tenth place with 25 points and Juniata College with 10 points in 11th place.

Moravian is slated to begin the 2005 MAC season on Saturday, September 3rd versus Delaware Valley College in a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on the new Sportexe synthetic turf at Rocco Calvo Field at the Steel Field Complex.
