MORAVIAN WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKED FOURTH IN COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE COACHES PRESEASON POLL

ANNVILLE, PA --- The Moravian College women’s soccer team has been selected to finish fourth in the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the conference head coaches.

The Greyhounds received 31 points. Messiah College, which has won the last five Commonwealth championships, was selected first with 49 points and garnered seven first-place votes. Rounding out the conference poll was Susquehanna University in second place with 40 points, Elizabethtown College in third with 38 points and the remaining first place vote, Lebanon Valley College in fifth place with 27 points, Albright College with 18 points, Widener University with 13 points and Juniata College with eight points.

Expectations are high again this season for the Moravian College women’s soccer team with the 2005 squad returning 18 letterwinners and seven starters from last year’s 9-5-4 squad. Head coach Eric Lambinus feels the team can get back to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with some hard work and leadership from his returning players.

Senior forward Megan Collins (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) was the team’s leading scorer last fall with ten goals and two assists for 22 points. Collins also earned a spot on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team a year ago.

The Greyhounds will open their 2005 campaign on Saturday, September 3rd at Drew University in a non-conference match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
