THE GAME: Moravian looks to wins its second straight game and earn its fifth win of the season in a Middle Atlantic Conference game versus Wilkes University. Kickoff for Moravian's annual Homecoming game is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.

THE COACHES: Scot Dapp (West Chester ’73) is in his 19th season at Moravian, with a career record of 114-76-1 (.599). He entered the season in the top 50th in winning percentage among NCAA Division III active coaches. Dapp, who is currently the president of the American Football Coaches Association, has earned Coach-of-the-Year honors from the MAC three times including Co-Coach of the Year in 1997 and has led the ’Hounds to two appearances in the NCAA playoffs, the ECAC Southeast Championship game in 2002 and the ECAC Southwest Championship game last fall.

Wilkes coach Frank Sheptock (Bloomsburg ’89) is in his tenth season at the school with an overall mark of 59-41 (.590).

THE SERIES: Saturday’s meeting will be the 35th in the series with Moravian holding a 29-14-1 advantage. The Greyhounds have won the last six years, including a 34-27 victory last season in Wilkes-Barre, a 22-20 win in Bethlehem back in 2003, a 22-7 victory in 2002 in Wilkes-Barre, a 25-15 in 2001, 28-21 win in 2000 and a 28-22 victory in back in 1999.

LAST TIME THEY MET: In Wilkes-Barre last fall, junior tailback Chris Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 49 carries and senior quarterback Jerry Venturino (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong HS) completed eight of 11 passes for 165 yards and two scores to lead Moravian to a 34-27 victory over Wilkes University in MAC action. Moravian opened the scoring by taking the opening kickoff 75 yards on nine plays to take a 7-0 lead with 10:32 remaining in the first quarter. Venturino capped the drive with a 32-yard scoring strike to junior wide receiver Shawn Martell (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS). Kicker Ken Macaulay added the extra-point. Venturino’s pass was the only pass play on the drive. On Wilkes first possession, Moravian senior linebacker Chad DiFelice (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl HS) intercepted a pass and the Greyhounds took over on their own 26-yard line. Venturino would finish off the 74-yard, eight-play drive with his second pass of the game, a 24-yard touchdown strike to senior wide receiver Ben Hawkins (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan HS) giving Moravian a 13-0 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter. The Colonels cut the score to 13-7 Moravian lead with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Moravian scored again when Jacoubs jumped over the pile for the touchdown, however, Jacoubs was stopped on the two-point conversion attempt giving the Greyhounds a 19-7 lead. Wilkes drove to Moravian’s 40-yard line, but the drive ended on an interception at the Moravian 26-yard line by linebacker Bill Carasia with 5:15 left in the second quarter. On the following drive on second and goal from the four-yard line, Jacoubs reached the one-yard line before fumbling into the end zone. Moravian senior wide receiver Russ Demko (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) fell on the ball for a touchdown. Macaulay converted the extra-point for a 26-7 Moravian lead with 2:03 remaining in the first half. Wilkes scored its second touchdown of the game and after a two-point conversion run failed, Moravian had a 26-13 lead in the third quarter. The Colonels forced Moravian to punt on the next possession after forcing a fumble while sacking Venturino. Wilkes scored in the third quarter to cut Moravian’s lead to 26-20. Jacoubs and Venturino would put together a 20-play, 78 yard drive that took 9:19 off the clock with Jacoubs capping the drive with a four-yard touchdown run with 9:00 remaining in the game. Venturino ran a quarterback draw out for the two-point conversion giving the Greyhounds a 34-20 lead. Carasia led the Moravian defense with seven tackles while senior defensive back GJ Weiss (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) added six tackles.

LAST WEEK: Senior quarterback Jerry Venturino completed 12 of 19 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for another score to lead the Moravian College football team to a 41-17 victory at FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference action. FDU took the opening kick off and drove down to the Moravian 28-yard line when Greyhound freshman linebacker Andrew Morrissey (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus HS) intercepted a deflected pass at the five-yard line and returned it to the Moravian 23-yard line. Morrissey also had five tackles in the game. The Greyhounds took the lead on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Venturino to cap a 13-play, 77-yard drive that took 6:34 off the clock. Freshman Brian Reckenbeil (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville HS) added the extra-point for a 7-0 Greyhound lead with 2:58 remaining in the first quarter. After forcing the Devils to punt, the Greyhounds went on a ten-play, 66-yard drive that Reckenbeil finished off with a 29-yard field goal, giving Moravian a 10-0 lead with 7:11 left in the first half. The Devils would score their first points of the game on a 45-yard field goal to cut the Greyhounds lead to 10-3 with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter. Moravian scored once again before halftime on a ten yard pass from Venturino to senior wide receiver Ben Hawkins to cap off a nine-play, 79-yard drive. Reckenbeil added the extra-point for a 17-3 lead with just 28 seconds remaining before the intermission. On the reception, Hawkins became the sixth player in Moravian history to reach the 1,500-yard career receiving plateau. Hawkins caught six passes for 130 yards in the game to lift his career receiving totals to 1,513 yards on 75 catches with 15 touchdowns. The Greyhounds opened the second half with a nine-play, 72-yard drive with Venturino finishing off the drive with a 34-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Cletus Kilker (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame HS). Reckenbeil’s extra-point extended Moravian’s lead to 24-3 with 10:23 remaining in the third quarter. Kilker had two receptions for 46 yards. After forcing Moravian to punt for the first time in the game, FDU drove 77 yards in nine plays and scored its first touchdown of the contest. The extra-point attempt was blocked by Moravian senior defensive end/punter Corey Czerniak (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) leaving the score 24-9 with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter. Czerniak averaged 36.5 yards on two punts. Each team would punt on their next possession. Moravian would finish off its next drive of 38 yards on just three plays with junior running back Chris Jacoubs (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven HS) finding the end zone on a 24-yard scamper. Reckenbeil’s extra-point extended the Greyhounds’ lead back to 22 points at 31- 9 with 12:54 remaining in the game. Jacoubs had 133 yards on 21 carries to become the first player in school history to surpass 3,500 career yards. Jacoubs has 3,624 yards on 694 rushing attempts in just 27 career games. Moravian added three more points on a 25-yard field goal by Reckenbeil with 9:54 remaining in the game to give the Greyhounds a 34-9 lead. On the drive, junior running back Marc Panepinto (Perkiomenville, PA/Boyertown HS) had a 42-yard carry. Panepinto had a total of 62 yards on five carries as the Greyhounds had 269 rushing yards on 47 attempts in the game with 11 different players handling the ball. Senior fullback Kevin Lukich (Ogdensburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley HS) added 34 yards on five carries. FDU would score again on a fourth-and-13 play. The play finished off a nine-play, 77-yard drive, and the Devils added the two point conversion to cut the score to 34-17 with 6:41 left in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds added another score on a 45-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Brad Swartz (Temple, PA/Muhlenberg HS) to freshman wide receiver Rob Shaffer (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville HS), the first career touchdown for both players. Moravian needed just three plays to complete the 50-yard drive. Reckenbeil nailed his fifth extra-point of the game to give the Greyhounds a 41-17 with 6:02 remaining in the game. Moravian ended the game with the ball on the FDU two yard line after driving 35 yards on seven plays. The Devils had turned the ball over on downs on their final possession. Senior linebacker Chad DiFelice led the Greyhounds with 12 tackles while forcing two fumbles. Junior linebacker Cliff Garr (Easton, PA/Notre Dame HS) had eight tackles while senior defensive back Mario Bevilaqua (Scranton, PA/West Scranton HS) added seven tackles. Senior defensive end Steve Cline (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport HS) and sophomore defensive tackle Tom Braxmeier (Center Valley, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) each had one and a half sacks for the Greyhounds.

SCOUTING WILKES: The Colonels enter the game with an overall record of 4-2 and a 4-1 mark in MAC action. Sophomore quarterback Al Karaffa leads Wilkes on the field. He has completed 107 of 183 passes for 1,355 yards with 11 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Karaffa's top targets have been junior wide receiver Jim Jordan, who has 33 catches for 522 yards and five touchdowns, junior tight end Matt Pizzaro, who has caught 22 passes for 227 yards and two scores, and junior wideout Bo Tkach, who has 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Tom Andreopoulos leads the Colonels ground game with 289 yards and a touchdown on 68 carries while sophomore John Impagliazzo has 232 yards and a score on 61 attempts. Senior running back Jake Remmel has contributed 120 yards and a touchdown on 55 carries. Tkach is averaging 8.4 yards per punt return and 17.9 yards per kickoff return for Wilkes. Senior punter Kyle Devlin is averaging 37.0 yards per punt on 42 punts with a long of 66 yards and 11 inside the 20-yard line. Junior kicker Kyle Keller is nine-for-ten on extra points and two-of-five on field goals with a long of 38 yards while junior Ryan Yurewicz has made six-of-seven extra point kicks and one-of-three field goals with a long of 31 yards. Junior defensive back Jake Grande leads the Wilkes defense with three interceptions as the Colonels have picked off ten passes this fall. Grande has also added 31 tackles and six passes defended. Sophomore linebacker Kyle Follweiler has a team high 63 tackles with ten tackles for loss, an interception and three passes defended while junior linebacker Tyler Henninger has added 48 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks. Junior defensive lineman Anthony Serafin has 12 tackles for loss among his 28 stops to go with three fumble recoveries while sophomore defensive lineman Jason Acquaye has four of the Colonels' 13 sacks.

BALANCED & EXPERIENCED ‘HOUNDS: Of the 102 players on the Moravian roster, 39 are freshmen, 21 are sophomores and 16 are juniors. There are 26 seniors on this season’s squad, and the Greyhounds return 57 letterwinners and 15 starters.

GREYHOUNDS IN THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC CONFERENCE: Beginning four seasons ago, the Middle Atlantic Conference became an 11-team conference instead of two separate leagues. Moravian, which received two first place votes, was selected to finish in a tie for second in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll this season with Widener University. Wilkes was picked fifth in the preseason poll. Delaware Valley was selected as the top team in the MAC and received the other nine first place votes.

MAC WEEKLY HONORS: Freshman kicker Brian Reckenbeil of Moravian was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Greyhounds’ 41-17 victory over FDU-Florham last Saturday afternoon. Reckenbeil connected on all five of his extra-point attempts and added two field goals for a total of 11 points in Moravian’s 41-17 victory at FDU-Florham. Reckenbeil’s five-for-five performance on extra-points kept him perfect on the season at 17-of-17 after taking over the kicking duties at King’s College in the Greyhounds’ third game of the season. He also added field goals of 29 and 25 yards to improve to four-of-six on field goals this fall.

THE MAC STATISTICAL RANKINGS: The Greyhounds are fifth in the MAC in total defense, allowing 346.3 yards per game. The squad is second in passing defense at 190.0 yards per game, and the defense is sixth in rushing yards allowed at 156.3. The Greyhounds are fourth in points allowed at 20.7 per game, and the squad is second in points scored per game at 31.2. Offensively, Moravian is fifth in the MAC at 401.7 yards per game. The Greyhounds are ranked first in rushing offense at 225.0 yards per game and eighth in passing offense at 176.7 yards per game. Moravian is tied for fifth in turnover margin with a 0.00 per game average as the Greyhounds have committed ten turnovers while forcing ten turnovers. The Greyhounds are first in the MAC in yards per rush at 5.4, rushing touchdowns with 13, passing yards per completion at 17.4, field goals attempted at 11, kickoff return average at 21.6 yards per return and interception returns for touchdowns with two. Individually, senior quarterback Jerry Venturino is ranked seventh in passing yards per game at 169.2 yards, first in passing yards per completion at 17.2, seventh in passing touchdowns with nine, fifth in pass efficiency with a 133.3 rating and eighth in total offense at 194.7 yards per game. Junior running back Chris Jacoubs is ranked third in rushing yards per game at 130.7 yards per game, third in rushing attempts with 136, tied for first in rushing touchdowns with nine, tied for first in scoring at 9.0 points per game, third in rushing yards with 784 and fourth in all-purpose at 135.0 yards per game. Senior fullback Kevin Lukich leads the MAC in yards per rush with an average of 6.8 yards per carry while Jacoubs is fourth at 5.8 and junior Marc Panepinto is seventh at 5.5. Lukich is also sixth in total offensive average per play at 6.8 yards per play while Venturino is first at 7.7 yards per play. Senior wide receiver Ben Hawkins ranks first in the MAC in yards per catch with an average of 21.8 yards, and he is tied for third in receiving touchdowns with five. Hawkins is ninth in reception yards with 414, and he is ninth in receiving yards per game at 69.0. Senior punter Corey Czerniak is sixth in the MAC with an average of 34.5 yards per punt and ninth in number of punts with 20. Freshman kicker Brian Reckenbeil is second in the MAC in kick scoring with 4.8 points per game. Reckenbeil is tied for first in PAT percentage at 100 percent (17 of 17), and he is tied for second in PAT kicks made, tied for fifth in PAT kicks attempted, tied for second in field goals per game (0.67), tied for third in field goals attempted with sixth and tied for second in field goals made with four. Freshman kicker Brian Maida (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro HS) is tied for fifth in field goals attempted with five. Freshman wide receiver Rob Shaffer is tied for fifth in kickoff returns with 11 and seventh in kickoff return yards with 206. Senior linebacker Chad DiFelice is tied for fifth in tackles per game at 9.5, and he tied for second in tackles for loss with 1.67 per contest. DiFelice is tied for second in sacks with 0.67 per game, and he leads the MAC with 0.67 forced fumbles per game. Junior linebacker Cliff Garr, who is tied for first in interception returns for touchdowns with one, is tied for 31st in tackles at 5.5 per game while senior defensive back Mario Bevilaqua is tied for 31st in tackles at 5.5 per game. Senior defensive back Tyler Chomik (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) is tied for fourth in the MAC in passes defended at 1.33 per contest with junior defensive back Israel Aguila (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom HS). Chomik is also tied for first in interception returns for touchdowns with one, and he ninth in punt return yards with a total of 48 yards on seven returns. Senior defensive back GJ Weiss is tied for 42nd in tackles at 4.8 per game while freshman linebacker Andrew Morrissey is 11th in the conference in tackles with an average of 7.3 per contest. Morrissey is tied for third in forced fumbles with 0.33 per contest.

THE QUARTERBACKS: Senior quarterback Jerry Venturino has completed 59 of 120 passes for 1,015 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. Venturino has also added 153 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries while being sacked six times. Sophomore quarterback Sean Hill (West Reading, PA/Wyomissing HS) has completed his only pass attempt for no yards and has been sacked four times while seeing action in five games this season. Sophomore quarterback Brad Swartz has played in three games, completing his only pass for a 45-yard touchdown at FDU-Florham.

IN THE BACKFIELD: In the backfield, junior running back Chris Jacoubs leads Moravian with 784 yards and nine touchdowns on 136 carries. Jacoubs has 3,624 yards (first all-time at Moravian) in just 27 career games with 17 100-plus yard games in 23 starts, including four games over 200 yards. Jacoubs became the first player in school history to reach 3,000 rushing yards in a career against Susquehanna University and the only player in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons in 2003 and 2004. He is also first all-time with 210 points, 35 career touchdowns, and 694 career rushing attempts. Senior fullback Kevin Lukich has 157 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries while junior fullback Joe Costanzo (Barnstead, NH/Bow HS & Tilton School) has added 25 yards on seven carries. Freshman running back Tyler McCambridge (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) has contributed 61 yards on just 11 carries while junior running back Marc Panepinto has 115 yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts this season. Senior wide receiver Ben Hawkins has 34 yards on five attempts.

THE WIDE RECEIVERS: Moravian has had nine different players catch a pass this season. Senior wide receiver Ben Hawkins leads the Greyhounds with 19 receptions for 141 yards and five touchdowns. Hawkins has moved into sixth all-time at Moravian with 1,530 receiving yards on 75 receptions. He is also second all-time with 15 career touchdown catches. Junior wide receiver Shawn Martell has 11 catches for 210 yards and a score while sophomore tight end Kris Bisci (Easton, PA/Easton HS) has seven receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Cletus Kilker has six catches for 121 yards and a touchdown while senior wide receiver Russ Demko has four catches for 71 yards. Junior running back Chris Jacoubs has added seven receptions for 26 yards while senior wideout Andrew Mazurek (West Orange, NJ/West Orange HS) has added three receptions for 45 yards. Freshman wideout Rob Shaffer has grabbed three passes for 85 yards and a touchdown while senior fullback Kevin Lukich has one catch for five yards.

OFFENSIVE LINE: The Greyhounds’ front line includes seniors Scott Burke (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel HS), Salvatore DeWalt (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Brenten Runne (Stanhope, NJ/Hopatcong HS) and juniors Andrew Remsing (Bath, PA/Northampton HS) and Dave Kircher (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan HS). Freshman Timothy McBride (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township HS) made a start in place of an injured Kircher against Juniata College, Widener University and FDU-Florham. DeWalt was selected to the 2005 Lindy’s Preseason All-American First Team center. Last season, the Greyhounds set single season records for rushing yards 2,541 and total offense 4,479 yards a year ago and the line has an average size of six feet, two inches and 280 pounds.

DEFENSIVE FRONT: Senior Bryan Kohlbecker (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South HS) leads the Moravian defensive line with 22 tackles including six tackles for loss, one and a half a sacks and a fumble recovery he returned four yards versus Juniata College. Senior Steve Cline has added 20 tackles with five and a half for loss, two and a half sacks and one pass defended. Senior Robert Stockley (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South HS) has contributed 13 tackles with one and a half a tackles for loss and one sack while junior Alex Smith-Constantine (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus HS) has ten tackles with two and a half for loss and an interception he returned nine yards versus Susquehanna University. Junior defensive end Nick Feo (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees HS) has 14 tackles with three and a half tackles for loss, one and a half sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery while senior defensive tackle Mike Hurden has contributed seven tackles with half a tackle for loss. Sophomore defensive tackle Tom Braxmeier has nine tackles with two and a half for loss and one and a half sacks while sophomore defensive tackle Matt Adams (Dover, NJ/Dover HS) has three tackles. Senior Corey Czerniak has four tackles this season with half a tackle for loss while senior Keith Jacobson (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill HS) has three tackles including one for loss.

THE LINEBACKER CORPS: Senior linebacker Chad DiFelice leads the Moravian defense with 57 tackles including ten tackles for loss, four sacks, three pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Freshman Andrew Morrissey has made 44 tackles with one tackle for loss, half a sack, two forced fumbles, one of which he recovered, an interception he returned 18 yards at FDU-Florham and a pass break-up while junior Cliff Garr has added 33 tackles with one tackle for loss, one sack and an interception returned 32 yards for a touchdown versus Susquehanna University. Sophomore linebacker Mike Prata (Little Ferry, NJ/Paramas Catholic HS) has 12 tackles on the season with half a tackle for loss and a pass defended. Sophomore Arturo Duran (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood HS) has added nine tackles with one for loss this season while junior Tony Gro (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) has contributed four tackles with half a tackle for loss. Sophomore Dan Edleman (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) has six tackles with half a tackle for loss.

THE DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD: In the defensive backfield, senior safety Mario Bevilaqua has made 33 tackles with two and a half tackles for loss, three passes defended and a forced fumble. Senior safety GJ Weiss has added 29 tackles with half a tackle for loss, an interception he has returned 16 yards and two pass break-ups. Senior cornerback Tyler Chomik has added 27 tackles with one for loss, an interception returned 42 yards for a touchdown against Juniata College and seven pass break-ups for a total of eight passes defended while junior cornerback Israel Aguila has 24 tackles with one for loss, eight passes defended, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. Sophomore defensive back Matt Sheridan (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling HS) has 16 tackles while junior defensive back Tom Carroll (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI HS) has made 11 stops.

KICKING GAME: Senior Corey Czerniak is averaging 34.5 yards per punt on 20 attempts. He has a long punt of 51 yards with seven punts fair caught and right inside the 20-yard line. Freshman kicker Brian Reckenbeil is four-for-six on field goal attempts with a long of 38 yards versus Susquehanna University and 17-for-17 on extra-point attempts. Freshman Brian Maida has connected on one of five field goal attempts with a long of 25 yards versus Delaware Valley College, and he is three for six on extra-point attempts.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Freshman wide receiver Rob Shaffer has three punt returns for zero yards and 11 kickoff returns for 206 yards including a long kickoff return of 45 yards. Shaffer has also made five special teams tackles while junior wide receiver Shawn Martell has four tackles. Martell has also returned three kickoffs for 49 yards and a long of 22 yards. Senior defensive back Tyler Chomik has seven punt returns for 48 yards with a long of 13 yards and five kickoff returns for 165 yards with a long of 74 yards versus Juniata College. Sophomore defensive back Matt Sheridan has two punt returns for nine yards after blocking three punts at King's College, which tied an NCAA Division III record. Freshman tight end Doug Bocchino (Madison, NJ/Madison HS) has four special teams tackles while junior fullback Joe Costanzo has added six special teams tackles and one kickoff return for 13 yards. Junior running back Justin Klement (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) also has six special teams tackles.

OVERTIME ‘HOUNDS: Moravian has played a total of seven overtime games since the NCAA instituted the rule for the 1996 season and is 5-2 all-time in the extra-session. Last year was the fourth time since 1996 that the Greyhounds did not play at least one overtime game. Moravian has played four overtime games with Juniata College, two with Widener University and one with Delaware Valley College.

WINNING WAYS: Moravian had 11 consecutive winning seasons—all under Coach Scot Dapp, from 1987 to 1997 and has had 14 winning seasons in Dapp’s 18 years. The 11-straight winning seasons is the longest in school history. Dapp ranks third among Greyhound coaches in winning percentage.

ON THE AIRWAVES: For the ninth straight year, the Greyhounds' games will be on the radio. Moravian's games will be aired on WKAP Oldies 1470 AM for the second straight year. Phil May calls the play-by-play call while Mark Harding adds color commentary and technical assistance from John Elliott.

STARTERS PLAYER OF THE GAME: As part of Moravian's radio contract with Oldies 1470 WKAP, the announcers will select the Starters Player of the Game for Moravian during the St. Luke's Hospital Post-Game Show.
