FOUR GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO COMMONWEALTH ALL-CONFERENCE WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAMS; SENIOR MEGAN COLLINS TABBED AS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior forward Megan Collins (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) of the Moravian College women’s soccer team has been named the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year, and she was one of four Greyhounds to earn spots on the Commonwealth All-Conference Teams announced Tuesday.

Collins and freshman midfielder Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional HS) were named to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team while senior defender Erin Gonda (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury HS) and freshman goalie Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge HS) each earned spots on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team.

The quartet has helped Moravian to a 15-4-1 record this season, including Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Elizabethtown College in the Commonwealth Conference Semifinals. The win was the Greyhounds’ first-ever victory in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament and also tied the school record for victories set during the 2000 season.

Collins has netted a team high 14 goals this season for the Greyhounds, and she has added six assists for 34 points. Collins has seven game-winning goals, and she is second all-time at Moravian with 94 points on 39 goals and 16 assists in four seasons. This marks the fourth straight year Collins has been on the All-Conference Teams. She was also a First Team selection in 2003 and was on the Second Team in 2004 and 2002.

Fitzpatrick has scored 22 points with eight goals and eight assists in her debut season with three game-winning goals.

Gonda has three goals and an assist for seven points. Gonda, who has scored five goals and five assists for 15 points in her career, has been on the Commonwealth All-Conference Second Team the last three years.

Corrigan, this week’s Commonwealth Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Mid-Atlantic Goalie of the Week, has posted a 0.57 goals-against average, 56 saves, a 14-4-1 record and a school record ten solo shutouts in 1,744 minutes of action.

Moravian will play in the 2005 Commonwealth Conference Championship match on Saturday, November 5th at a site and time to be determined after the other semifinal match between Messiah College and Lebanon Valley College in played Tuesday evening.
