MORAVIAN’S KELLY APPLEGATE A FINALIST FOR KODAK ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

LILBURN, GA --- Junior forward Kelly Applegate (Easton, PA/Wilson HS) of the Moravian College women’s basketball team is one of 40 finalist for 2006 Kodak/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America Basketball Team for NCAA Division III announced late Thursday by the WBCA.

The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member Kodak/WBCA All-America Team.

In addition to Applegate, the other finalist from the region are all from schools in the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation including Taryn Mellody and Allison Matt of the University of Scranton, Eli Cook of Messiah College and Elizabeth Jordan from King’s College.

Applegate helped Moravian to a 21-7 record this season, a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament and a runner-up finish in the 2006 Commonwealth Conference Tournament.

Applegate, who was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and to the Commonwealth All-Conference First Team, the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball December Team of the Month, the Women's DIII News December Player of the Month, the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Team of the Year and the Lehigh Valley Small College Women's Basketball Player of the Year, led Moravian at 19.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7 percent (192 of 345) from the floor.

Applegate, who is ranked in the top 25 nationally in field goal percentage, also added 37 assists, 43 steals and 26 blocked shots. Applegate became the 17th player in Moravian history to score 1,000 career points in the final regular season game and now has 1,075 points in her career. She also has 499 career rebounds heading into her senior season.
