MORAVIAN’S SANTRY & HENNESSY NAMED COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCE
PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE, PA --- Sophomore third baseman Kelly Santry (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland
HS) of the Moravian College softball team has been named the Commonwealth Conference
Player of the Week for her performance last week while senior pitcher Meagan
Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) earned Commonwealth Pitcher of
the Week honors.
The duo helped nationally-ranked Moravian to a 4-0 record last week with doubleheader
sweeps of Haverford College, 5-0 and 10-3 in five innings, and Widener University, 4-0
and 5-3, to begin the 2006 Commonwealth Conference season.
Santry was six-for-12 (.500) with five runs scored, four RBIs, a double,
three homers and two walks. In the field, Santry had five putouts and
seven assists in 12 chances. In the first game of the week, Santry set
a pair of Moravian records with three home runs and 12 total bases in a win at Haverford. Santry had
a pair of solo home runs and a two-run homer to go with a walk in four plate appearances.
In the second game at Haverford, Santry was two-or-three with a doubles
and a run scored. Santry had a hit, a walk and a run scored in a shutout
of Widener. Santry was held hitless in the second game, a 5-3 Moravian
win.
Hennessy had a 3-0 record and a save last week. Hennessy tossed
a four-hit shutout of Haverford in the first game of the week. Hennessy allowed
just two walks while striking out eight in the win. In the second game of the doubleheader, Hennessy entered
the game in relief after just four batters. She did not allow a run while giving up four
hits and striking out four in the win. Hennessy opened the conference
season tossing her third one-hitter of the season, shutting out Widener, 4-0. She gave
up a walk while striking out four. Hennessy would make another relief
appearance in the second game, a Moravian win. She pitched three innings, allowing a run
on two hits and four walks while striking out three. For the week, Hennessy was
3-0 with a save, a 0.00 ERA, 19 strikeouts and just ten hits and six walks allowed in 22
innings of action. Hennessy scored two runs and she also had six assists
and two errors in the field.
Moravian, 9-3 overall, is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, March 23rd in a
non-conference doubleheader at Dickinson College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
