MORAVIAN’S RICHIE CLINE NAMED COMMONWEALTH
CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE,
PA --- Senior first baseman/pitcher Richie Cline (Union
Beach, NJ/Keyport HS) of the Moravian College baseball
team has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week
for his performance last week.
Cline became the 11th player in Moravian College
history to reach 100 career hits and the second this season while
hitting .563 last week.
Cline opened the week needing five hits to reach
100 in his career. He was three-for-five with a run, an RBI and
a double in an 11-8 loss to Wilkes University. Cline
started the game on the mound and received no decision. He allowed
six runs on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout in four innings
of action. Cline then went four-for-six in a 22-12
loss to Delaware Valley College. His second hit of the game, a ground
rule double to right centerfield was his 100th hit. He had two runs
scored and three RBIs. Cline finished off the week
with just a two-for-five performance in a 17-5 loss to Messiah College
in Commonwealth Conference action. However, Cline
made both of his hits count with a three-run homer and an inside-the-park
homer for four RBIs. Cline’s two homers gave
him five for the season and 14 for his career, moving him into second
all-time at Moravian.
Cline had eight putouts, three assists and one
error while seeing time on the mound, at first base, in right field
and in left field during the three games last week.
Moravian, 5-25 overall, is scheduled to return to action on Monday,
April 24th in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Messiah
College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
